Do you ride with a clear visor or not?

I've always ridden with a clear visor but after looking at my last set of trackday pics I think I'm going to switch to a mirrored visor. It was weird seeing the expressions on my face and my chubby cheeks. :lmao:

Do you ride with a clear visor?

Do you ride with a smoked or mirrored visor?

Are there any other options?

Dave 10-20-2009 01:48 PM

both my lids have clear

shmike 10-20-2009 01:49 PM

Clear at night.

Smoked during the day.

Trip 10-20-2009 01:50 PM

I ride with a clear visor because I don't want to pay for a tinted one for my new lid yet. Wear glasses inside it if I really need to block light.

azoomm 10-20-2009 01:51 PM

Dark smoke. I will not ride with sunglasses after seeing someone break their nose by having a get off and the helmet pressing his sunglasses thru the bridge of his nose.

Nope. No clear for me unless it's night time.

Sean 10-20-2009 01:52 PM

I bought a mirrored visor for the same reason :loser:

It's like the O face, almost everyone looks like a retard at the turnin point :lol

I have a 2nd helmet that has a clear visor that I grab if I'm going to be riding at night.

Homeslice 10-20-2009 01:52 PM

Smoked visor all the time........Sunglasses suck, because they often make reflections on the back of the visor.

Mirrored visors suck as well, because they are usually not as dark as a good dark smoke visor, and they also have optical defects or haze marks.....Even the supposedly "best" ones like Arai.

Whoa seriously? :skep: I ride with sunglasses all the time but that freaks me out. Never heard of that happening.

I have always ridden with clear and sunglasses. Next year I'm going to smoked/mirrored unless it's dark out.

CasterTroy 10-20-2009 01:53 PM

On the track I always wear a smoked visor

z06boy 10-20-2009 01:53 PM

Smoked visor and sunglasses during the day and clear visor and clear glasses at night.

I like wearing shades/clear glasses under my visor for when I may flip up the visor while moving to keep the wind out of my eyes so it doesn't dry my contacts as much...plus keeps from catching a bug in the eye too if I flip the visor up.

Got Lasik (actually PRK) and one issue is your eyes don't produce as much moisture. The side effect of that when riding is you get all kinds of crap in your eyes for a while. I've had to retire my AGV helmet because it was constantly directing crap into my eyes, much worse than other lids. I didn't have a problem before surgery.

Scorpion EXO-1000 Helmet = I ride with both simultaneously

That's the one with the dual flip up visors ? I may have to check into that one.

dReWpY 10-20-2009 02:24 PM

clear and only clear. i sometimes ride with glasses, but only on rare occasions
I have seen too many ppl get stuck out at night with a tinted visor and have to ride home in scary conditions

Since this is posted under "Track" I'd assume you're not going to get "stuck" out there :nee:

Rider 10-20-2009 02:42 PM

Dark smoke shield. I rarely ride at right and if I know I am going to be out at dark I will switch to clear before I leave the house. I have on a couple of occasions been caught out with a dark shield at night. Not fun. You just have to take the well lit roads home.

dReWpY 10-20-2009 02:42 PM

That's why I posted it in this section. ;) But interesting to hear a street point of view too.

No I don't want to take a rock or a bug to the face. I'll take my chances with the visor down. Maybe if I was putting around at 25-30mph but not highway speed. And most major roads in MI are 50+ mph limit

In MI you're more likely to take a deer to the face at night! :tremble:

Yeah no crap! WAY too many june bugs and small :trip: around here to risk leaving the visor UP at all

KSGregman 10-20-2009 03:39 PM

They're bad here too...had to add some "spotters" to the RT....glad I did too, I can now see off the road quite a bit at night and catch them as they start to run across

We should take a pic of our visors after a ride here in the country and then see who decides to leave their shields up:lol

Sixxxxer 10-20-2009 04:10 PM

Dark Smoke during the Day.

Clear at night

Sean 10-20-2009 04:21 PM

I rode with a visor open ONCE and had a bee fly into my helmet about 35 seconds into the ride. Funk that noize!

jtemple 10-20-2009 05:19 PM

I wear dark smoke. If I think I'm going to be out after dark I take a clear one in a shieldsak.

Particle Man 10-20-2009 05:21 PM

clear.

mondos06cbr1000 10-20-2009 05:32 PM

dark on the track, bring a clear one as a backup

pssh shit happens. they usually just fall out the bottom without harming anything

derf 10-20-2009 07:22 PM

I'm with dave, in fact for most of the summer I took the shield off and just wore a pair of ballistic sun glasses, I also keep a clear pair in the trunk. I would wear a 3/4 helmet if I didnt feel soo uncomfortable wearing it, for some reason I actually enjoy the wind in my face, even on uber cold days

WARputer 10-20-2009 07:28 PM

Scorpion lid.....clear outer shield and a flip down tinted inner shield for those sunny moments.

HokieDNA01 10-20-2009 08:29 PM

I ride with a dark smoke visor, clear if at night. I always keep a part of wrap-around safety glasses with me if I get caught out at night without my clear visor...works fine.

I am thinking about getting one of the dual visor Scorpion helmets. I just dont like how the liner feels. Its kinda rough and itchy compared to my EXo-700

Isn't that the truth!

Mr Lefty 10-20-2009 10:19 PM

Arai only had Clear... had a Fog City visor that changed with the light... that fuck'n rocked!

Shark... had a mirror and clear... loved having both... then broke the damn mount on the side

Shoei... only offer clear and light smoke... not worth it to get light smoke... so I wear sunglasses

I have to wear some sort of tinted lenses for the next year or so due to my eye surgery... wish the Shoei had a mirrored lens... but then agian... it's a pain to change... so maybe I dont'

mine worked perfect right up until I ruined it!

I had it for two years in AK... but then on my Indy trip last year... the night before... I decide to thoroughly clean my visor.... so I took it off and over to the sink.

apparently the fog city visor hadn't sealed or had become separated at some point... and i got water between it and the visor... and couldn't get it out... except by removing it... thinking I could just score another down the road... that's what I did.

NO motorcycle shop I stopped at had one... pissed me off

OneSickPsycho 10-21-2009 08:58 AM

Clear... just cause my tinted visor was skuffed in a crash and I was too cheap to replace it.

Papa_Complex 10-29-2009 08:12 AM

I bring both a clear and a dark smoke to the track and decide which one to use when I get there. I go clear on overcast days and dark smoke on sunny days.

Ninjakel 10-29-2009 08:17 AM

Dark smoke all the time.

Mirrored or dark smoke most times. If I know I'll be out past dark then I change it before I leave...otherwise fuck it.

Ditto, I HATE carrying extra crap around, so I opted for the 1000, had it on order for months. LOVE IT. Other than its ridiculous heaviness.

See above, its great for everything, but the weight takes some adjusting to.

Kell, most people look like a dork hitting up the turns. Half the time I get pictures I am biting my bottom lip and look like a damn chipmunk. Its ok, really.

Same here. I don't like the feel of glasses under my helmet.

ceo012384 11-03-2009 09:22 PM

I don't care what you say.... a dark smoke shield looks 800000x more badass, hands down... so that's what I wear. I do it for the kids, ya heard?

except if its raining and pretty overcast... then i'll suck it up and do the clear deal

Mr Lefty 11-03-2009 09:26 PM

Mirror looks 10000x better than the dark smoke IMO

Depends on the helmet i think... on my race lid, arai rx-7 josh hayes, def not... on my street lid, hjc ac-12 carbon vader, def

but even on the street lid I still use a dark smoke because the mirror shield ends up with the finish getting fucked up from normal road debris and bugs...

YUP! sucks hardcore... my shark looked PIMP with the mirror... but bugs fucked it up... and the only way I could get them off with out causing MORE damage... was soak the visor in hot water with lots of dish soap... let the bugs soak off then rinse and dry... ANY sort of scrubbing even with my fingers (not nails) would make it worse...

my new Shoei... they only make a light smoke... still thinking about it... but gotta see just how hard it is to change... as I'll be doing some road trips on the DRZ

I put a wet paper towel on the visor and let it marinate for a few minutes. Softens the bugs right on up.

My old Suomy mirrored didn't hold up at all. If you didn't clean the bugs off right away they would eat away the mirror coating. This new one is much tougher, other than the big ass scratch I put in it the very first day I rode it. :td: Whacked it off the door on my way out of work.
