Camier remarks on his new ride: Picture by: Paul Sturman Newly-crowned British Superbike Champion Leon Camier has said he can't wait to figure the Aprilia World Superbike out and start to put in some consiently fast lap times. Camier says that the RSV4 couldn't be anymore different than his BSB-winning Airwaves Yamaha but he is slowly getting used to it and was able to test some of Ohlins best forks at Portimao today. "The Aprilia is so different to my Yamaha, you wouldn't believe and I can't wait to finally figure it out. We have tested some of the trick Ohlins forks today and I immediately went half a second quicker," said the Kent youngster, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening. "We managed some race-distance runs today and were into the 1'44s the whole way, with a couple of good laps in the 1'43s too so I am pretty happy with the way it is going. Hopefully, I can take the times down tomorrow." 1 Jonathan Rea (Ten Kate Honda) 1'42.156 2 Michel Fabrizio (Xerox Ducati) 1'42.362 3 Calvin Crutchlow (Sterilgarda Yamaha) 1'42.795 4 Noriyuki Haga (Xerox Ducati) 1'43.098 5 James Toseland (Sterilgarda Yamaha) 1'43.79 6 Max Neukirchner (Ten Kate Honda) 1'43.810 7 Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki) 1'43.902 8 Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati) 1'43.951 9 J Fores (Ducati) 1'44.413 |
Crutchlow and Toseland complete their first day of testing on the Yamaha R1
Yamaha Press Release 2010 Yamaha World Superbike riders James Toseland and Cal Crutchlow wasted no time today, getting straight down to business with their first ride on the championship winning R1. Both riders were working with their new teams for the first time, but gelled quickly and had got down to under the race pace of Sunday’s championship final before the end of the first sessions. Today’s session was the first step in adapting the bikes to their new riders, both Toseland and Crutchlow will start again tomorrow morning to make further changes and close in on the perfect set up for their 2010 race season. Despite a high speed high side in the morning session, Cal Crutchlow showed no signs of slowing down and continued to make significant time improvements over the afternoon’s practice time. New team mate and fellow British rider James Toseland also showed solid improvement over the day, despite being new to the bike and track he quickly got down to business and continued to shave time off his laps over the course of the sessions. Having achieved an incredible victory on Sunday and lifted the World Superbike title for the first time, the Yamaha team were straight to business today, working hard to develop championship winning riders for the next season. Cal Crutchlow during Yamaha WSB testingCal Crutchlow, Yamaha World Superbike Team (1'42.7): “It was a good enough day apart from a stupid crash this morning after about 30 laps, there seemed to be something wrong with my rear tyre which caused me to high side. I hit my head and have had a few headaches today but ok apart from that. The testing has gone well, we’ve done quite reasonable times, all credit to the guys who’ve worked really hard. We haven’t changed much on the bike today, just tried to make it my bike a bit, tomorrow we’ll do some more and see how we go.” James Toseland at Yamaha WSBJames Toseland, Yamaha World Superbike Team(1'43.7): “I’m feeling really positive, it’s obviously my first time on the bike, it felt a bit alien after two years on a GP bike but the balance of the bike felt good and I’m really impressed with how the team’s working, I’ve got an old friend of mine as a chief engineer. I’ve been really impressed to work with him today and Silvano Galbusera (Yamaha World Superbike Team Technical Co-ordinator) looking over him with his experience has been great. What’s been nice is the changes we’ve been making have always been in a positive direction, so to say we’ve got down to more or less race pace on a brand new track and a brand new bike is good, I’m pretty pleased with it.” Massimo Meregalli, Yamaha World Superbike Team: “Cal’s first day went pretty well, it was easier for him compared to James as he already knew the track, but it was still a really good first test session for him. For James everything was new today, the bike, the track, tyres, many things! I think tomorrow he will make another step. For the first day we are very satisfied with both riders.” |
tardozzi out!
Reports from Italy suggest that Davide Tardozzi is about to leave his current position as Team Boss of the Ducati Corse WSB squad after almost 20 years of partnership with the Bologna factory. Tardozzi is a legend in the WSB community, having been team manager to 1996 World Champion Troy Corser in his pre-factory times, and then the guiding force behind further Ducati victories for Carl Fogarty, Troy Bayliss, Neil Hodgson and James Toseland. In total Tardozzi has won ten Riders' Championships as a Ducati team manager. Having almost won the first ever WSB Championship for Bimota, Tardozzi was a seven times Italian Superbike Champion as a rider, and four times a winner in WSB races. An official announcement of Tardozzi's resignation is expected on Monday 9 November, if not sooner. |

Aprilia To Abandon Moto2 Plans For A Return To MotoGP? Submitted by David Emmett on Fri, 2009-11-20 16:11. in ApriliaMoto2MotoGP The news that 1000cc production-based engines will be allowed to race in MotoGP alongside the prototypes appears to be having some unexpected consequences. After at first announcing their intention to offer cut-price Aprilia RSA 250s to run in Moto2, and then dropping that idea to concentrate on building a chassis for the Moto2 class to wrap around the spec Honda engine due to be used, the Spanish website Motoworld.es is reporting that Aprilia may decide to switch tack altogether. According to the reports, Aprilia will instead start work on plans to enter the MotoGP series, dropping their support for the Moto2 class altogether. Five teams had already been lined up to use Aprilia's Moto2 chassis, but hints that the project had been shelved appeared when news broke that Julian Simon and Mike di Meglio of the Aspar team are testing the BQR chassis at Valencia today. Aspar has very close links to the Aprilia factory, and so their choice to test a different chassis could be interpreted as a sign that they have already been informed that Aprilia's plans have changed, and there will not be an Aprilia chassis. Aprilia will reportedly redeploy the resources that would have gone into their Moto2 program, and set up a second World Superbike team, to continue the development of their RSV4 machine. That team could feature the currently unemployed Alex de Angelis, according to the senior American journalist Dennis Noyes. De Angelis is known to be carrying a sizeable chunk of sponsorship from the Republic of San Marino, and though that sponsorship may not have been enough to get him into MotoGP, it could well be enough to fund a competitive World Superbike effort. The intention of Aprilia to enter MotoGP raises and interesting dilemma, and could pose a real legal problem for the new regulations. For Aprilia to enter MotoGP as a factory, they would have to put together a completely new prototype, which uses none of the parts from their current Aprilia RSV4 Superbike. Their other option would be to build a chassis and engine kit to sell to privateer teams, but this could land the MotoGP series in trouble. If the chassis bears more than a passing resemblance to the one used on the RSV4, Infront Motor Sports, the commercial rights holder for World Superbikes, would be almost certain to mount a sustained legal effort to get the bike - and possible the MotoGP regulations - banned. Given that the current RSV4 is probably the closest thing on the market to a MotoGP bike that the general public can buy, it is hard to see a potential Aprilia 1000cc production-based MotoGP bike being a whole heap different. The news - if true, of course - does highlight that the switch to 1000cc is a move in the direction that Dorna and the FIM were hoping for. The organizers have presented the switch back to 1000cc as a way of getting more MotoGP bikes on the grid, and if there's already interest from Aprilia just a couple of weeks after the news started to surface, that's a sure sign that the grids in 2012 will be a good deal fuller than they are now. |

Matt Mladin might be riding a BMW. If that's the case then we shall see if BMW should stick with making boring ass, old men's bikes or maybe there's hope for the Roundel.
http://www.motomatters.com/news/2009...e_in_wsbk.html Ever since Ben Spies entered the World Superbike championship, all eyes have been on his former teammate at Yoshimura Suzuki, Mat Mladin. The 7-time AMA Superbike champion initially decided to stay in the US, but his disillusionment with the way the DMG - the rights holders for AMA Superbikes - was running the series became more and more prominent, and he eventually announced his retirement from racing at the end of July 2009. At the time, speculation was rife that this retirement was merely from the AMA, and that the Australian veteran was planning a secret return to World Superbikes for the 2010 series. Mladin denied it, telling Superbikeplanet.com's Dean Adams that he intended to stop racing altogether once the 2009 AMA season had concluded. Or perhaps not. An eagle-eyed observer over on Motorcycle USA spotted a fascinating Twitter posting by Mat Mladin this week: a couple of world superbike offers have come my way in the past month. 1 of them very good in regards to machinery. decisions decisions ;-) Mladin has previously denied that he would be interested in making a return to the world stage, after experiences with lesser teams and on lesser equipment left him disillusioned. He would only go if he was offered a ride on a top bike with a top team, he said, and he wasn't holding his breath, as the World Superbike paddock was singularly unimpressed with the level of racing in the AMA. Ben Spies' success changed all that. Noriyuki Haga was the only man capable of challenging Spies on a regular basis, and he did so on the bike and with the team that had won the 2008 championship. If Spies was so good, the thinking ran, and Spies had so much trouble beating Mat Mladin, then how good must Mladin be? Good enough to land a prime offer in World Superbikes, it now appears. Mladin has long been linked to Yoshimura Suzuki's return to the World Superbike paddock, and with the situation in the AMA still looking grim and the Japanese branch of Yoshimura fielding wildcards in World Superbikes in 2010, it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that Mladin could ride in WSBK next season. With all the factory seats already taken, that narrows Mladin's options down considerably, but that single Twitter posting does raise a mouthwatering prospect. Could Mladin do a Spies? We'll know soon enough ... ~~~ UPDATE ~~~ Visordown is reporting that the team Mladin is being linked to is the new BMW privateer squad, which we reported on last week. According to Visordown, Alfred Inzinger, who ran the Power Horse Ducati squad that Troy Corser won his first World Superbike title on, has become involved with the Reitwagen Racing BMW squad, due to field Roland Resch in 2010. Dutch website Racesport.nl had already alluded to rumors that the team were chasing a big name rider to go alongside the inexperienced Resch, and few names are bigger than Mat Mladin. Mladin would certainly be a huge PR boost for BMW, and help the team secure strong support from the Bavarian factory. What's more, Mladin has in the past sworn that he would not go to WSBK unless he had assurances about the level of machinery and the level of competence in the team. With the team being managed by a former world championship-winning manager, and strong backing from Germany, this could be sufficient for Mladin to change his mind. It's all just rumor for the moment, but there's an awful lot of pieces that seem to make sense. |
holy shit

He will fail.

That's an utter fabrication by the author. I doubt Mladin would call the BMW very good machinery as it only broke the top 5 once this year. It would have to be a factory ride, probably with Suzuki or Honda.

holy shit, tardozzi is back...with bmw?!
BMW Motorrad Motorsport is restructuring its team management in the Superbike World Championship, appointing former Ducati Corse's Davide Tardozzi to a senior position with immediate effect. The Italian will head up team management and operational control at the race tracks in the Superbike World Championship. BMW Motorrad Motorsport Project Manager Rainer Bäumel will continue as Head of Project Management and Project Management Engineering. In his role as Team Manager, Tardozzi will look after the operational management of the team at races and tests, act as an interface between the team and the promoters and organisers of the Superbike World Championship, and provide a link to suppliers. "I am delighted finally to be able to announce our partnership with Davide Tardozzi," said BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Berthold Hauser. "The new structure ensures that the team will be well set up for the future. Team management and team organisation are important areas in which we can see further potential for improvement. The key here is to approach every situation in a structured and target-led way. This applies to both general processes and tactical decisions with a direct influence over performance. With his many years of experience in the sport, Davide will play a decisive role here. At the same time, the restructuring will allow Rainer Bäumel to fully focus on the core areas of overall project management and engineering." Tardozzi said: "I imagine a lot of people will be surprised to hear of my decision to join BMW. However, for me the decision was simple. I had offers from MotoGP, but my heart is in the Superbike World Championship and I feel at home here. BMW Motorrad Motorsport is a young and hungry team, and that gives me the challenge I have been looking for. I'm looking forward to working behind the scenes to the benefit of the team. I know that I can fulfil this role at BMW. Of course, already knowing our riders Troy and Ruben well makes my job easier. 2010 will be a tough year, as there are many good riders and teams in the Superbike World Championship. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that BMW can take a big step forward over the coming year." |

was just reading the racing section of the latest fast bikes and discovered that guandalini ducati is very likely to be guandalini aprilia this season. i look forward to seeing smrz on pole 60% of this season ;)
WSBK » Borciani-Guandalini Aprilia deal confirmed? Borciani and Guandalini join forces to enter a satellite Aprilia RSV-4 for Jakub Smrz Jakub Smrz looks set to ride an Aprilia RSV-4 in the World Superbike Championship under the Borciani-Guandalini banner this season after the provisional entry list for 2010 was accidentally revealed. Although yet to be officially confirmed, Borciani – formerly Sterilgarda Ducati – and Guandalini Racing will join forces in 2010 to become the first team to run a satellite Aprilia in the series. The name of the team was revealed after the provisional entry list for the 2010 season was exposed on BikeRacing.it. Smrz is earmarked to ride having re-signed with Guandalini Racing last season. Elsewhere, Matteo Baiocco is down to ride a DFX Ducati, suggesting the team's former rider Regis Laconi is not yet race fit following his life-threatening accident at Kyalami seven months ago. Additionally, Vittorio Iannuzzo will return for a second season aboard the Squadra Corse Italia. |
looks like guandalini merged with another team and scooped up a new sponsor which killed off the aprilia deal. official word says they will be running 1098s. might be a typo but another article claims the althea guys are on 1198s which id have to assume the xerox guys are as well. it sucks for the guandalini guys either way.

dude this sounds BADASS. all motorcycle parade through town following the racers on their race bikes? DUDE. wTf can't they race at thunderbolt :damn:
This year's visit to Utah by the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship on May 29-31 will be the biggest and best yet, officials from Miller Motorsports Park announced in a press conference Thursday. The event, which will take place over Memorial Day Weekend, will include a major classic-rock concert, a downtown street party at The Gateway outdoor mall, a tribute to America's military and a number of additional new features. Like last year, the Memorial Day Weekend activities will begin on Friday, May 28 on the steps of the State Capitol and will feature team riders, sponsors, and track and elected officials. It is anticipated that Governor Gary Herbert will be in attendance and officially commence the festival weekend. The racers, on their race bikes, will then lead a parade of motorcycles, in which the motorcycle-riding public is invited to participate, to The Gateway, which will be closed to all but motorcycle traffic. The Gateway will be the site of a street party that will include live music, autograph sessions and stunt bike demonstrations to celebrate the weekend. Each brand of motorcycle will have its own reserved parking area. Racing action will begin on Saturday, May 29, capped by a classic-rock concert at the track featuring Foreigner, Styx and Kansas (and a possible surprise addition to be named later), with fireworks at its conclusion. Racing will continue on Sunday and Monday, with the feature races for the Superbike World Championship and Supersport World Championship on Monday. The support races will be the second annual Larry H. Miller Superbike Challenge, with events for both the GTU and GTO classes. The US military will be honored with a 2,010-flag Tribute Field in the track's infield throughout the weekend. Other highlights will include demonstrations by the Lucas Oil Stunt Plane, stunt bike exhibitions, manufacturer displays and parking corrals, military flyovers and an expanded Vendor Village. "We are very excited about this year's event," said John Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Miller Motorsports Park. "We have added a significant amount of entertainment to complement the outstanding racing provided by the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship. This will be the biggest international sporting event in Utah since the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the beginning of a Memorial Day weekend tradition for families throughout Utah and the United States to enjoy." "The 2010 event at Miller Motorsports Park promises to be the most exciting U.S. round ever in the history of World Superbike," said Paolo Ciabatti, Director of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship. "Our championship will be returning to Utah this year with 26 permanent riders in the top class and 20 riders in World Supersport and with two young American stars: Roger Lee Hayden, riding a Kawasaki in World Superbike, and Jason DiSalvo riding for the factory Triumph team in World Supersport. We are extremely pleased to see all the thrilling activities that have been put together and are sure that fans from all over the country will come to Miller Motorsports Park in huge numbers to enjoy a fantastic Memorial Day weekend!" |
Damn, that sounds awesome.
