Do you have a certain rpm?

When just cruising around town or a backroad at a steady 55mph or so, do you have a certain/target rpm you cruise at usually? If so, what is it?

Fleck750 11-21-2009 10:39 PM

4k - 4.5k. It's the sweet spot on the KZ.

Tmall 11-21-2009 10:43 PM

1800 to 2000.

dReWpY 11-21-2009 10:49 PM

isnt that almost red line on the xb? lol

thirdgenlxi 11-21-2009 10:51 PM

For just cruising, I usually keep it between 4-5000 and she's happy. If I need to haul ass or pass somebody in a hurry, I just downshift

Tmall 11-21-2009 10:53 PM

Down... Shift? I don't understand..

101lifts2 11-21-2009 11:07 PM

Top gear always as fast as possible for best fuel economy and lowest emissions.

3rd or 2nd in the canyons.

racedoll 11-21-2009 11:23 PM

3rd-4th depending on how much traffic, so 3-4K rpms. I try to be in highest possible for best fuel mileage.

RedRider2k2 11-22-2009 12:22 AM

I have a certain RPM I avoid. That's anywhere from about 5400 to 5600. Everything on my bike resonates terribly there.

BobTheBiker 11-22-2009 12:57 AM

rev limiter, all gears.

seriously I usually aim for 4500 or so on any 500-600cc bike, right around 2500-4k on a 1000.

Cutty72 11-22-2009 05:01 AM

about 4K

Fleck750 11-22-2009 08:19 AM

tached1000rr,

Thank you for starting this thread. I've asked the bf what rpm his 2006 ZX-10 cruises at and he's actually never looked.

I asked for comparison to my 30 yr. old KZ750, just to see how much things have changed over the years. I guess things haven't changed much. :D

Speaking of which, why isn't he posting on here anymore???

Mr Lefty 11-22-2009 09:28 AM

on the RR it was usually around 4k... helped with the MPG..

with the DRZ... uh... 45mph... no tach so no idea the RPM's...

He's fallen into the pit of Evony. I do believe it's worse than farmville. :hitfan:

He doesn't post on any boards anymore, just taking a break from the whole m/c thing. I keep him up to date on what's going on.

marko138 11-22-2009 10:27 AM

I like 3500rpm in 3rd gear. That's my cruising rpm.

CrazyKell 11-22-2009 10:43 AM

Around 5000.

Rangerscott 11-22-2009 11:07 AM

I range from 4500 to 5500. Just depends on what gear I'm in and how I'm riding.

Gas Man 11-22-2009 01:01 PM

Around 3k

jtemple 11-22-2009 02:50 PM

5000-5500 on the ZX-10R

Particle Man 11-22-2009 03:21 PM

5k

I might be a bit higher than this, especially if I'm riding alone. Makes the bike a bit louder so I feel like people have a better chance of hearing me if they didn't see me.... really need to break down for that exhaust.

Rider 11-23-2009 08:41 AM

4500-5500 in 3rd gear for most city driving. Makes it nice when you want to be a hooligan. Drop it down 2 grears, dump the throttle and watch the front end come up. :kawi:

the chi 11-23-2009 10:47 AM

Somewhere between 3-5. I really dont like hearing my bike scream unless Im at the track screaming with it.

z06boy 11-23-2009 10:56 AM

Somewhere around 4k -5k I think...I'll have to look next time to verify though.

neebelung 11-23-2009 11:21 AM

I think usually 4th-ish, or as stated before, highest gear possible for best fuel economy. Even in higher gears, if needed, the R1 will get out of it's own way with a quickness, even without a downshift.

Tmall 11-23-2009 11:27 AM

Lowest rpm doesn't always equal best fuel economy. My car gets the best economy at 20 over on the highway. And my bike gets its best milage from 3500-4500 rpm.

karl_1052 11-23-2009 02:30 PM

anywhere from idle to 11000 rpm.

for cruising/highway riding 3-4K is fine. The bike has enough power at 3K to pass anything.
