So when do you consider that you have blown a turn/curve?
This was a topic of discussion on a local forum and i thought i would be interesting to hear from the TWF folks on this one.
Should make for some interesting responses |
If I could commit to the line I wanted to take OR if I had to change course drastically because of the line I took.
I don't consider going through a corner slower as blowing it. There are corners at the track that I deliberately practise and practise and practise until I can gain speed. Smooth first, fast later. :idk: |
Every turn or curve is blown, otherwise I'd be riding MotoGP.
|
Anytime I've got to do an unplanned -for maneuver; on any new stuff I'll need to make little corrections; but if I've totally misjudged the turn and have to squeeze a handful of brakes, pick the bike up or slam the bars in harder than I planned; well, I know when I've miffed a turn....and I know because I'm pissed with myself..............
|
When I am skidding on my ass out the other end of said curve or turn.
|
On the street, if you cross a line, you've blown the corner. Plain and simple.
|
When I leave my lane.
Kell beat me to it. |
Major correction (brake, throttle, or steering) and going out of a lane.
|
Im something of a perfectionist, so if I hit a road I'm comfortable with or on the track and I have to make an adjustment mid turn, to me, I blew it.
Having spent several track days at my home track, I know the sweet spots, and if I miss it I irritate myself because I just interfered with the next few turns as well. Im definitely not the fastest, but I prefer the rest of it be as close to "my" perfect as I can get it. |
i was thinking along the lines of the track, so i put "when you crash". but in the terms of street riding, pretty much what kell & tmall said.

I'm the same way. I have corners I know and love. I have corners I know and hate. :lmao: I like to get as close to "my" perfect as I can. When I blow it, I shake my head and try and move on but it always affects me for a bit. |

Once I leave my lane or drift wide if it's on track would I consider it a "blown" turn, minor corrections are necessary even if you don't realize you are making them in every turn you go through. Too many conditions change and adjustments are made without us even realizing we are compensating for those changes to consider a minor adjustment a blown turn.

Track: if I have to slow down to correct
Street: if I cross either line |
Correcting within the lane is not blowing the curve (although I might still be annoyed with my actions). If I leave my lane I have "blown" the corner and consider it almost as bad as if I go off the road. I have one lane to work within.

I'm not too picky about my lines on the street, but you should never find yourself outside of your lane unexpectedly. If you do find yourself outside of your lane unexpectedly, then you should consider riding with a larger margin of safety.
I voted #2: "When more than a slight adjustment is needed", as I've "blown" a turn but not left my lane plenty of times. |
Are Goldwings the motorcycle equivalent of dualies?
As for making corrections in a curve, I do it all the time on decreasing-radius curves, or when someone comes over the double-yellow. And I don't consider that a blown curve. Going off the pavement, being in the wrong gear, looking somewhere else instead of around the curve, gassing it too quickly, or not braking with enough force blows the curve for me. |
crossing into another lane does it for me.

Rider on the goldwing deserves to be stabbed in the throat with a rusty dick... :wtfru: |
The guy on the Gixxer blows his line too on the way back up the road if you check out the next pic down on Killboy. Both need some driving lessions.

Crossing any lines on the road is crappy along with not getting through the corner as smoothly or at the speed I think I could have taken it at. |
