For Us "Winter Folk"

I havent ridden my Bike since Early October...I'm itching at the Chance to get back in the saddle...and While Jersey has had a few nice days where I could've been out for a bit...Either Work got in the way or I was busy with other obligations.

But either way I still need new tires and an Oil change before I can ride her everyday...

But My question is...when the weather breaks where is the "First" place your going to ride to...Do any of you have a specific ride you do from time to time...to a restaurant...store...picture spot etc etc?

I know after I get my Maintenance done and its nice enough Im jumping the bridge into Philly and getting myself a nice Cheesesteak and Cheese fries from Pats. Then I might make a run down to Cape May and take soem pictures by the lighthouse...Take the scenic route down and just enjoy the bike.

So...where will you be going first chance you get?

Wherever time allows. A few years back some of my first rides were down to the Ohio River. Did that for a couple weekends straight in early April, really broke my "riding ass" in quick that year.

Not sure about this year.

I'll likely take a quick run down Waverly Rd. It's nice and twisty, residential so you don't go too fast and there's a coffee shop in the middle to warm up.

Pussy, I went and did just about 200 miles saturday between my house, New Brunswick, Jackson, Toms River and back to my house. I did a bunch moe riding in december too, but I did take a break where it got down to the teens and only went out once early in the cold spell. My battery is now dead, very dead. Both times I tried to start my bike on sat it needed to be jumped, I had hoped riding it would charge the bat but it didnt do squat so yeh new bat time.

Sixxxxer 01-20-2010 09:49 PM

Yep Major Pussy...

Fuck the Cold.

dReWpY 01-20-2010 10:05 PM

Ill prolly make a centerhill run this weekend if the weather holds up, that's a solid 200 mile ride, if the battery is up for it lol

Watch out for the damn bridge it's down to one lane with a stop light that sucks...but you can just go if you can't see anything coming, and there was a bit of gravel up there on monday. But it's clear of salt and the roads in the area are clean.

I take a spin down the Natchez Trace to Leipers Fork for lunch or dinner. Always a great spot to bike/people watch.

Here is me in my favorite spot!

dReWpY 01-20-2010 11:55 PM

thank you for the heads up duelly noted

HokieDNA01 01-20-2010 11:56 PM

I live on the west side right at the top of the Trace so it is an easy ride for me. I have been to the dam many times but am always following someone at a pretty good clip so I dont feel like I know my way around those parts to head out there alone. I think I will be doing more solo exploring this year so I will have to wonder around that side of town more.

pauldun170 01-21-2010 12:12 AM

My last ride was in December.
I have routes...not destinations.

Dave 01-21-2010 12:14 AM

oh speaking of fowl...watch out for turkey's up in the center hill area....I almost went in the ditch monday cause there was about 8-10 on the road on one of the blind corners.

dReWpY 01-21-2010 12:27 AM

that is when one needs to bring back the squishable rule of riding:

if something is squishable, run it over

if something is not squishable, then dodge it

examples:

turkey- squishable, run over it
minivan- not squishable, avoid like hell
fat lady in moo moo- not squishable, but you could prolly have a safe impact, minds well hit it
bag of decoys- semi squishable, minds well hit it
squirrel- squishable
frog- squishable

You would bounced off her no prob...only thing is you may have had a little purple cloth on you from what she was wearing.

and the horn works great for those stupid turkey's (which the SV horn sounds almost as bad as the rebel) .....did mess up my rhythm though.

RedRider2k2 01-21-2010 10:50 AM

My first ride is usually just a 15 minute loop around town because it tends to take place when I still should not even have the bike out. (Snow, ice, tons of salt/gravel)

Particle Man 01-21-2010 10:54 AM

I have a loop I do for my first ride every year of about 30 miles that has enough curves and such to get me back into practice and that keeps me close enough to home in case something happens.

No place special.

CrazyKell 01-21-2010 10:57 AM

My first ride every year is home from where Boo stays for the winter. It's about 2 hours away so it's always a nice way to ring in the season. :D

marko138 01-21-2010 11:07 AM

Usually 4 miles to work.

karl_1052 01-21-2010 11:12 AM

I stay in the city for the first few rides. the snow stays longer in the outlying areas.

Rider 01-21-2010 11:15 AM

I'll be riding from Pensacola FL to Grand Rapids, MI with a stop in Deals Gap. I think I'll be down there the weekend of April 25th. My dad is a huge NASCAR fan and I was planning on going to the Talladega race with him before I headed home.

What time do you leave for work?

Theres a Difference Between Stupid and Crazy.

And you can call me a bitch pussy etc etc all you want...I dont like riding in the cold.
