List good microwaveable food

I'll start with Hormel beef roast. Four minutes and you're good to go. Get some bread so sop that meat juice. Mmmmm....meat juice.

dReWpY 01-26-2010 12:06 AM

Marie caledars/ chicken and mashed potatoesand gravy

psychochild28 01-26-2010 12:47 AM

Haven't had a frozen dinner for months. I cook all my meals or eat out.

But lean cuisine was always a good one.

And hot pockets...

either way don't buy frozen/boxed meals anymore. So whatever I cooked before is the best microwaveable food then I guess...:idk:

dReWpY 01-26-2010 01:08 AM

Best food in the microwave, cheezy prezles

Tsunami 01-26-2010 01:12 AM

pizza rolls!

I always like the banquet stuff

but right now I eat meals from the Fresh and Easy and I freeze the ones that won't be eaten in the next couple of days. Not sure if Fresh and Easy is anywhere else besides Las Vegas but that market rocks!

lauralynne 01-26-2010 02:08 AM

nothing. eww...

stove or oven. Or toaster.

Papa_Complex 01-26-2010 07:39 AM

Scrambled eggs. Very easy to make in the microwave. Toss in some green pepper, diced onion, and top with cheese.

karl_1052 01-26-2010 08:28 AM

Stagg chili, Dynamite hot

(although, it is more of a mild, IMO)

CrazyKell 01-26-2010 08:29 AM

Pizza Pockets trump ALL!!!!

I got a microwave for Christmas. Not sure why since I don't microwave anything and eat only fresh food.

Tmall 01-26-2010 08:30 AM

Bacon

TYEster 01-26-2010 08:43 AM

HurricaneHeather 01-26-2010 10:19 AM

If I am at home....really only leftovers and to steam veggies if I'm in a hurry.

I heart my toaster oven....not sure how I'd survive without it.

anthonyk 01-26-2010 10:31 AM

Ours pretty much only makes popcorn (kettle corn for me, thanks).

skiergirl 01-26-2010 10:37 AM

I love my steamer! veggies, fish, rice, you name it and it's easy - put water and food in - turn on - eat.

Yeah, we had one of those and got rid of it. We had a thousand random small appliances and we didn't use it enough to justify the space. Along with the egg cooker, the waffle iron, the sandwich maker, the fajita maker, the quesadilla maker.

My mother in law really believes everyone needs a seperate appliance for every food that can be made.

Luckily, she never bought us a crepe maker or one of those giant trendy Kitchen Aid mixers.

Rider 01-26-2010 10:50 AM

I can't think of anything that tastes better microwaved.

the chi 01-26-2010 10:50 AM

I admit, I cheat. The hormel meats and such in the fridge section at the grovery are awesome. Try the beef tips Ranger, better than the roast, I love the ham as well. Throw that together with some veggies, rolls and maybe some potatoes and you got a full meal.

Cutty72 01-26-2010 10:54 AM

Hotdogs, or nachos.

Not sure what's trendy about those but if you cook or bake a lot they're a godsend!

Oh, it's just I know a few people who buy them who don't bake who want the red one, or the pink one or whatever. It's like an accesory for their kitchen decor.

Particle Man 01-26-2010 11:26 AM

bacon and hot dogs.

It doesn't taste better. But, it's still bacon with hardly any mess.

Ahhh okay.

Well as someone who had all the kitchen gadgets in the world....how would you rate a waffle maker? My father wants one of those ones that is somewhat suspended and you flip it over.

Eh, that's overkill. But my cheapo waffle maker is probably one of the most used items in my kitchen. (Right after my kitchenaid mixer. I love that thing.)

I wouldn't know....I never used it.

I don't like to work for food and waffles are work. A bowl of cereal is much easier.

First off, bacon in the microwave sucks.
Bacon should be fried in its own fat.

WTF, you are taking all the goodness out of bacon.

Besides, I can eat way more than 14 pieces.

Hey, I didn't say that I USE the thing

I generally cook a whole flat at a time, in a 12" pan, and put what I don't eat immediately in the fridge to use on burgers and stuff ;)

Right there with ya. My dad used to make bacon in the microwave and it wasnt as good as if it were cooked in a pan.

sherri_chickie 01-26-2010 03:44 PM

I got a kitchen aid mixer as a wedding present and am dying to use it, but I don't bake much right now, besides it's huge and my kitchen isn't. I imagine I will go through a nesting phase that will have me cooking up a storm though.

Microwaved backon IMHO is just not bacon...

And, your cheesecakes don't crack? From my experience beating a mixture to make a cheesecake will make it crack whereas mixing it with a large spoon won't...

As for the topic at hand, microwave foods are convenient. But, not ever "good."

the foods themselve may be so so bu tmy dad has made roast beef and turkey in the microwave/convection phase that it quite good and not all dried out.

Amber Lamps 01-26-2010 05:32 PM

Pre-Cooked Bacon FTW!!!! Throw it in the microwave for 30 secs and YUM!!!!!!

LeeNetworX 01-26-2010 08:38 PM

We have egg poachers for the microwave that work well. Every other Sunday we'll make 4 poached eggs and throw them in small tupperware containers with a piece of Canadian bacon, ham, or a turkey sausage patty. Then duing the week we'll toast a whole wheat English muffin, pop the container in the microwave to heat up the egg/meat and throw it on the muffin with a slice of cheese and have a hot breakfast on the way out the door to work. Usually bring a banana with me and have that when I get to the office.

I'll also steam asparagus or snow peas or green beans in the microwave with a dab of light margarine, S&P and garlic powder.

TYEster 01-26-2010 09:05 PM

Couple questions - How are you guys cooking eggs in a microwave? What kinda container/how much time? I might be revolutionizing breakfast around here with whole food instead of a milk/eggwhite shake.

What we use is similar to this. Just put a couple drops of water in the bottom, then the egg, and poke some holes in the yolk with a fork before cooking.

Eggs in the microwave taste disgusting to me but I know a lot of people that like them.

I had a newer one, though not a flipper and it SUCKED. Mom bought me an old one (old as in cloth cord) at a junk store for $2. It works perfectly!

Microwave - don't use it much, soften butter to make cookies or defrost veggies for chicken pot pie or sausage for pizza.

I do have a WW recipe for stuffed peppers to make in the microwave, FTW!

i have never heard of this. i'll hafta try a spoon next time. that's a good tip.

my cheesecakes rarely crack because i make sure to bake them in a water bath and not open the oven door until they are done. as far as my knowledge goes it is moisture from the water bath that helps prevents cracking. i also make sure not to overbeat the mixture, just enough to blend the eggs. so far i have had good luck.

I wonder if a regular ziploc "plastic" container would work? Drop of water n yolk poke first though huh.... COMMENCE TESTING!

Papa_Complex 01-27-2010 06:45 AM

They aren't microwave safe and they're quite thin. You'll likely end up with a melted container.
