Selling a bike..

I'm not really interested in selling my bike. But, I have it on the local classifieds for 8000. I figure if I get somewhere near that, I'll let it go and get a more touring oriented bike. Until then however, I don't really care if I sell it.

I love getting emails like, "I'll give you 5000. They were going for 7000 not long ago." Well thanks for the heads up chief. Little do they know my dealer will give me 6700 on trade in and that's without haggling at all. Could likely get them closer to 7000 if they wanted to move a bike.

Am I wrong to think I'm part of a seller's market with this thing?

Either way, I'm not selling it unless I get a good deal. But, I'm just curious what you guys think is going to happen to the value?

karl_1052 02-01-2010 10:23 AM

With 1125s going for $5K in the states, the Firebolt will not have a great resale.

With the tax break, you will be better off trading it in if they will give you $6700.

marko138 02-01-2010 10:25 AM

They'll be back to a more normal resale value in a little while. Don't worry about it.

Yes.

If you could get a true $6700 for it, take it.

I can guarantee you that whatever dealer offered you that much won't cut you a check for $6700. They are making up the difference with the profit margin of their bike.

I'd guess the dealer would put the TMV (true market value) of your bike at around $4k.

t-homo 02-01-2010 10:33 AM

Right now, you aren't going to get a ton out of it. I think if you give it a year, you should be good to go though.

This.

Tmall 02-01-2010 10:43 AM

But that's what I'm saying, I don't even want to sell it. That's why I put the price high. I want to see what kind of offers I'd get, and if the right deal does come along, then I would pounce on it.

As for trade, I was going to trade it in on a dirtbike. I had bike fever because my buddy bought an 09 Yamaha 450. He offered me this for my bike plus 700 bucks. Leftover 09 for basically $7400. That's $2000 under msrp.http://www.motosmed.com/graficos/img...%20KLX450R.jpg

Don't get me wrong. I know this thing will not appreciate in value. And I know it'll likely take somebody who really wants what I'm offering to pay near what I'm asking. I'm just hoping it happens before I'm eager to sell...

Haha I had a couple of people ask me what I would want to sell my bike this winter. $4500 is what I told em. Is it worth that, fuck no, but I had no intention of selling it and I was going to get the better end of the deal if I did sell it.

marko138 02-01-2010 10:46 AM

I'd sell mine for 10 large. Then go buy another one.

Gas Man 02-02-2010 12:41 AM

Trade it and be done.

I would have a hard time turning that down. I have dirt bike envy right now!

marko138 02-02-2010 09:54 AM

Fuck that dirt bike. Keep the Buell.

You can get an 09 KX450F for $6500 OTD all day long. Less if you deal. Kawasaki is offering $1000 off MSRP to get rid of them. (MSRP was $7650 I think)

Rider 02-02-2010 10:04 AM

Here you go, $5700

Remember, he is in Canada.

MSRP up there is over $9k.

Looking at the numbers, it sounds like a reasonable deal.

I still wouldn't do it.

Dirtbikes are great fun but they can be had so cheap after a year or two that I can't see buying new unless I had money oozing from my pores.

I plan on buying a used one next this fall or next summer. I have this sitting in my basement, which makes me crazy that it's not mine every time I walk down there..

It's my buddy's. It's brand new. And I'm sure I'll get to ride it plenty. When it's not icy/snowy/stupidly cold.

He lives in an apartment and has no storage. So, she's going to live in my basement till spring.

As a storage fee I would ride it. Right now.

That is how I am. I live in an apartment so I keep the bike over in a friends garage. He has been known to randomly show up to things riding it. With permission, of course.

It's not that random if he's got permission.

He has 8 other bikes there including an old school BMW GS100, 02 sv650, 98 bandit, aprilia rs50. Nobody expects him to show up on the R1.

Sounds like OTB and his bike collection.

They are very much the same. He doesn't go through as many bikes, buying and selling, but he has had quite a few. He has an old school honda RS 250 that we are going to fix up and get out to the track next year probably.

I'm not even sure what he's got right now. He goes through so many so quickly.

He's a standup guy. Top notch.

That is awesome. I need to spend a summer, once I graduate, riding around the country meeting members of the forum that seem cool.
