In Plushenko's mind (and website), he's the platinum medal winner
By Maggie Hendricks

Evgeni Plushenko's long, delusional journey continues. Just days after the silver medalist for men's figure skating denied that Evan Lysacek is the true champion of men's figure skating, he has apparently awarded himself a platinum medal. From his official website:

It reads, "Silver of Salt Lake, Gold of Torino, Platinum of Vancouver." What's impressive here is that not only has Plushenko's website team fabricated an Olympic medal, it designed a platinum medal, too. Bravo. That's commitment to a delusion.

Previously, Plushenko ripped gold medalist Evan Lysacek for not attempting a quad jump, and even Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin weighed in on the controversy, saying Plushenko "performed the most accomplished program on the Vancouver ice." Lysacek responded to the criticism with class, but Plushenko clearly hasn't come to grips with the fact that the gold medal eluded him in Vancouver.

Kaneman 02-23-2010 04:24 PM

Kinda gotta agree with him anyway. I mean, if you pull of tricks that are technically more difficult...you should get gold, right?

Degree of difficulty is a multiplier. And according to the article, they add another 10% to the second half.

Russian cry baby did his big tricks at the start, and did them more poorly than the other guy.

Other guy had a lower multiplier, but scored higher on his performance of his tricks.

If you scored 5.5 out of 6 and the multiplier (DoD) is 3.0 you would have 16.5. Now, if the next guy scores 5.9, and has a lower DoD, of 2.8 he would still beat him. And if he did his harder tricks in the last half, he could score higher still.

So, in short, he's a fucking cry baby and got what he deserved.

But, a funny cry baby none-the-less.

Apoc 02-23-2010 10:01 PM

Bla, as fucked up as he is, I have a hard time to take any sport that doesnt have a clear winner seriously.

Anything that has to be judged should be taken out of the olympics altogether.

That too!

But, theres some normal sports that are judged too.. Snowboard Halfpipe, freestyle ski jumping, etc etc..

Kaneman 02-23-2010 10:28 PM

I didn't see the performance. I tried...but I'm giving up on the Olympics. I want sport, not human interest.

Apoc 02-23-2010 10:50 PM

I'd like to say yes, but apparently the truth is no (I didnt watch). But any article i've read this morning said that the rest of the field wasn't even close to the top 3, and that even the top 3 werent that great

I didn't watch either, just saw she won bronze and thought it was a little fishy since she won the lowest medal.

She was a medal candidate all along I think. I didn't watch though. Hockey was on. Hockey > figure skating
