dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:01 AM

i just took a drive in this tonight, HOLY SHIT

i have never been more impressed with a car in my life and that is including a turbo'ed cobra set up for drag

TommyHotWheel 03-11-2010 12:23 AM

I love that car...There is one near me that I asked if the guy would take my Tiller and my Mustang for trade. Check the turbo, the exhaust from the turbo, it could give visible signs of turbo damage...I've heard, could be false. Other than that, just treat it like a used car, check everything.

I actually looked at buying this car about a year ago. I did meet the owner and took the thing for a test drive. He's a really nice and honest guy. If I remember correctly, he did the work himself.

On to the car. It does have some minor cosmetic imperfections but mechanically the thing seems as solid as a rock. The motor is built and tuned right, it's wicked fast.

I guess the main reason I didn't purchase this car was the fact that it had, not sure if it still does, the stock wrx transmission. I was looking at getting a Subaru to replace my invincible volvo 740 and was weary of all that power going through stock gears. At the time it was something I really wanted but not what I needed.

I had also read a lot about Subarus, mainly Imprezas. I read that the stock wrx transmissions don't hold up well to high shock loads, ie. clutch dumps, etc. Otherwise, if I remember correctly people have said they hold up ok.

Honestly, if I hadn't been in school at the time and had a steady job then I'm 95% sure I would have bought the car.

My opinion would be to highly consider the car if it's what you're looking for. However, if you beat on it hard trying to do burnouts, doughnuts, etc. then be prepared to replace the transmission.

dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:31 AM

Honest opinion you've always liked those cars and stuff like that. It's just you.

It's a sharp car. I'm looking at a CR-V or Equinox so we'll see.

dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:40 AM

Cr-v>equinox

psychochild28 03-11-2010 12:42 AM

Depends what my god father can do for me with the equinox he's a chevy dealer so price might be better for that. But yea I LOVE the CR-V.

dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:44 AM

i hate to say it but honda is a much better value for your dollar then chevy

dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:45 AM

only down side is that the dogs will have the backseat, but it has a hitch so the rare times i need to take the trailor some where i have the option

they're pretty close honestly. But I do know honda's more reliable. But having someone who can get you employee discount plus extra off kinda helps in buying/leasing a new vehicle.

dReWpY 03-11-2010 12:47 AM

never bought new other then the buell, i wouldnt know :(

Rider 03-11-2010 08:11 AM

My only worry would be why the engine was replaced at 88k. Did he rag on it so bad it needed a new engine? If so, he probably continued to rag on it after that.

Particle Man 03-11-2010 06:08 PM

Here's my experience with Subarus: powertrain is bulletproof as hell and will withstand a ton of abuse (the last one in the family got well over 150k), BUT, if there's even the slightest ding in the paint and you drive anywhere near salted roads, get it taken care of the second it happens (ie YESTERDAY) or the whole damn car will rot out from that point. I'm not talking touch-ups to the paint, I'm talking bringing the sucker to a shop and having it professionally fixed (even the slightest dent). We have 50k on the clock of our current Subaru (a Legacy sedan) and it runs like the day it was new.

Rangerscott 03-11-2010 07:43 PM

Engine change scares me unless they can prove that they did it just because and not "I was being a dumbass and blew the thing."

dReWpY 03-11-2010 09:04 PM

I know why he did it and I am confident it has been taken care of

I think they have rod bearing issues when you start modding it. My buddy bought an 02 for 3500 and rebuilt the engine. Some badass was racing it all the time.

Personally, I like Subarus alot and 10.5k doesn't seem all that bad for what it has.

Offer him 9 grand.

It sounds like you are looking for justification, and not opinions.

Take it to the Subaru dealer and get their opinion on the car before you put any money down.

There will be other cars if this one is no good.

dReWpY 03-17-2010 02:23 AM

never put your car on craigslist unless you want ppl showing up with cash of your asking price lol, damn that increased my time table

BobTheBiker 03-17-2010 04:33 AM

Honestly, I like the car. I'd have a subaru dealer check it out and give it a total clean bill of health, once you've done that, I"d say its a nice deal. from what I'm seeing, the motor was replaced pretty much when the owner decided to start building it up really.
So long as it was maintained properly and the owner didnt beat it like a drunken hillbilly beats his redheaded stepchild, you're good.

dReWpY 03-17-2010 05:40 PM

Rockslide has the road blocked/closed for the foreseeable future. Unless you go across the skyway and back across, you are fucked.

hanging out with my dad, he is in town just for that weekend. Dragon will most likely still be closed. I wouldn't come this way until you know for sure it is back open.

dReWpY 03-17-2010 10:17 PM

Not much of a choice, gotta pick the car up
