SUVs with 3rd row seating
Looking into getting an SUV with 3rd row seating or a minivan. Need room for 2 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs + sports gear.
Right now we like the Nissan Pathfinder and Honda Pilot. Any thoughts or suggestions? |
you get a minivan and we will have ot ban you

Does the pathfinder have a 3rd row option? My Acadia has been good for the last 3 years. We like it but when the lease is up we are getting something else. It's way way way nicer that the Honda pilot. |
Ford Flex.
Arcadia. Diahatsu Charade. |
Mini-van owns the wannabe SUV's.

my brother just made the switch from SUV to MV, and they could not be happier. |

I liked the Pathfinder, tho I found it lacking in power for my tastes. |
You can probably get into a minivan cheaper than an suv, with all the bells and whistles. My boss and his wife have one, and seriously considered a 2nd when it came time to replace his Expedition.
|
minivan will be much better for what you want to do. I dont honestly know of any SUV that offers 3 rows of seats nd isnt equipped with a minimum of a 350 smallblock V8. pretty much any minivan though will provide sufficient space, decent to great fuel economy and reasonably good power.

However, except for the 4Runner and Explorer (not coincidentally, the only two offered in a V8) those are "crossovers". A mini-van can do everything that a crossover can do, usually better. |
as of 2011 MY, the Explorer will become a "crossover" as well.

V6 Ecoboost, and FWD/AWD. Trying for increased mileage and comfort, negatives are reduced towing capacity. That means that my choice for the woman's vehicle is now an Expedition. http://www.leftlanenews.com/ford-explorer-2011.html |

my 4runner has third row seating. unfortunately it is only suitable for small children or midgets. anyone else has their knees pinned to their chest and their head brushing the ceiling. so if you want real life-sized people sitting in the third row, i'd opt for the minivan instead (even though they are highly uncool looking).
pathfinders are cool. i love the armada! |

The 3rd row would be for one of the kids (5 and 8), so it would work for several years. |

idk, my sisters minivan gets around 17 mpg, 20 on a long trip if you keep it under 70 mph.
There are SUV's that will get similar mileage, and give the benefit of higher ground clearance, AWD/4WD, and towing capacity. |

My parents Odyssey gets about 25 on the interstate. She's too cool for a van so no reason to push one anymore. ;)
|
Have you considered the Subaru Tribeca? 7 passengers, AWD and you can can tow up to 3,500 lbs properally setup.
MPG is not bad either. Mid to low 20's. |

http://i49.tinypic.com/akwp55.jpg just got back from kansas, 2000mi roundtrip, overall was about 22mpg, full hwy was 25mpg at 75ish couldnt ask for a better family truckster, Z went to the 3rd row and napped , got back there w/o disturbing the kids vs SUV crawling over the seats |
nice. I gotta admit, i kinda wish dodge still built turbo vans. A caravan with the full srt4 powertrain and some stronger springs & swaybars would knock a lot of the stigma off of the mini. Be a ton of fun too.

I did have a friend back in high school who could throw one of the 89-91ish Ford Aerostars around. That little V6 was peppy. |

the maz 5 is a neat lil car, we looked into those, and being "your" kids are older it wouldn't be too bad. |
|
Wow, your kids are getting big Ed (not big like you, just older:lol:).

The boy secretly wants to kill you.
Watch your back Ed. |

misshell, yes ours has DVD from the factory.
honestly, he model to get is a '09+ ody EX-L w/ a Rear entertianment system (RES). '09+ have a power tailgate, and w/ the RES it also has bluetooth. or any '08+ touring model w/o PAX, thats what we have. |

misshell , we also have a rear tv setup for previous veh. , and we love it, they even have a bigger screen then our OE one's. and is a nice compromise to factory stuff. get wireless headphones though, and the bigger the screens the better.

honestly misshell, i think a maz5 would be prefect, we considered it before, but for 800mi trips i didn't see it being to comfy, but i don;t think you'll drive that far on the island......lol
it's great little city car, handles nice, the kids your enquiring about at least the older one can prolly slide the door by himself(herself) and the younger will be there soon. our lil mazda has been great, i just had the assoc. belts changed but other then that, no issues in 75k, had 1 recall, but it was nothing really. our ody has a recall right now for a brake issue, that hasn't come up to us, yet. |
We had one as our curtosy vehicle when I worked at a Mazda dealer.
It was actually pretty fun to drive, but burns through tires quickly, not sure why. It was serviced by the book, and had no major issues. It had 42K on it when I left there and was about half way through it's second set of tires. Other than that, just regular maintenance. Mileage ran in the low 20's high teens depending on driver. The seats became slightly uncomfortable for the long haul, but overall not bad. |
I made up my mind, when the lease is done in a few months on the Acadia, I'm getting a Sequoia.
|
how many kids do you tote around?
