Procrastination?

Who likes to wait until the nicer weather, like now, to start on their mods or maintenance that they should have done over the winter?

Cutty72 03-20-2010 06:30 PM

I do sometimes if I don't get it done late fall. Winter is too cold without a heated garage, and early spring I'm usually busy fighting an impending flood.

Sadly, I get to do mods in summer this year, cause that's when I get back.

jtemple 03-20-2010 08:17 PM

I want to spend the warm weather riding, not wrenching. I bought a portable kerosene heater just for that purpose.

Gas Man 03-20-2010 08:31 PM

Not me. Winter is mod season. Either for the bike or the house. But I'm the anti-procastionator. I'm so not that its stupid.

I have a heater, just don't think about it until it's time to get out and ride.

Gas Man 03-21-2010 02:27 AM

I run upwards to 3 heaters in my garage during the "mod season".

tommymac 03-21-2010 03:50 AM

I am kind of the procrastinator, but also ran out of time and am scrambling to get the priller up and going for commuting duty. It also doenst help owning multiple bikes and a new house. theres always some sort of project that needs to get done.

the chi 03-21-2010 09:34 AM

The few times I want to do mods, I do procrastinate. this year however I gave up doing it myself and a buddy at a local shop is hooking me up. Trying out a new front sprocket, cleared up a few lil issues I had and next week new sparks plugs to see if that takes care of it. I just dont have the time.

Particle Man 03-21-2010 09:00 PM

I was gonna respond to this thread yesterday but I put it off until today.

That answer your question? :D

Cass 03-22-2010 10:03 AM

I procrastinated from doing a lot of needed things to the SV over the fall largely because I wasn't riding.. I was putting $ together to move, and I didn't want to get frustrated with it and be moving with my bike in a million pieces. But now I'm relocated.. and my procrastination is now coming in the form of "why don't you just buy your roomie's bike, then deal with the SV later?"

karl_1052 03-22-2010 12:34 PM

My garage had a car and two bikes all winter(plus all the other stuff, like lawn mowers, garbage/recycle bins, etc), so there was no room.

MILK 03-22-2010 04:33 PM

Thanks to my inspection always being due in March that's when I end up getting things done..

defector 03-22-2010 04:34 PM

I will officially respond to this thread tomorrow.

*Damn didn't see particle's post.

Tmall 03-22-2010 05:04 PM

Just this weekend I changed my engine oil, primary oil, adjusted clutch, adjusted primary chain and bought and installed a touring seat.

I have HIDS to install and a set of Pilot Road 2's.. Wish I had a garage to do it all in over the winter.

These HIDS are kicking my ass. I have no idea how to do it..

Cutty72 03-22-2010 06:33 PM

I have a set of HID's somewhere too, I'll do them in May.

Provided the gf didn't lose them

Cass 03-22-2010 06:34 PM

I should look into whether I can get an HID or something similar with better output for the SV.

Cutty72 03-22-2010 06:36 PM

Yes, you can.

Rangerscott 03-23-2010 09:46 PM

Heavy maintance, I'll wait for good weather unless I absolutely have to.

They're usually universal kits. You buy it, and make it work.

I dont have a garage, so mods happen in the driveway when it's nice out.

I'm wiring retarded, and I want to do both high and low. Everythign I've read says I need relays and timers.. But, according to the kit I can just hook it up...

It's confusing!

You should be able to just hook it up. I ran a relay on mine b/c I've heard of the stock wire harness melting. So it was an easy decision to run a relay to the battery. The stock harness just assures they turn on and off like the normal headlights on mine.

I bought a car relay on ebay for like 10 bucks. I do wanna put a timer on this season too...but I suck at electric too...so I'm gonna enlist the help of Gas Man again.

Cutty72 03-24-2010 01:04 PM

I'm thinking I'm just going to put a switch in line, so I control when they get power and when they don't. But I'm leaving the brights alone and the dims will be HID's

Marko. Order one of those delay timers like I installed. Then we can hammer it out in may when I come bk out. But I think I'll bring more tools&supplies this time.

Tmall. If u need any help just let me know. I'm no electrical whiz but I did one hell of a wiring job on the ultra this winter. 3 hids. One with hi/low ability and 2 spot lights. All on delays. I had to re fig how to wire the hi/lo headlight. Not even the delay guy knew how to with the newer hi/lo hid bulb kits.

How long do you think it'll take us to retrofit that sucker?

Gas Man 03-27-2010 05:12 PM

Not long. But we'll need more supply setup than you normally carry.

racedoll 03-27-2010 06:36 PM

Well, I didn't wait too long to get my forks over to the service guy. We got a couple inches of snow Thursday night/Friday morning, so I have another couple weeks before I'd ride anyway.

I wouldn't trust myself to do them and Erik doesn't trust himself. The guy that is doing them did Erik's when he raced so he does a good job and his labor rate is very reasonable.

Gas Man 03-28-2010 03:15 PM

Erik picked our forks up today, guess they been done since Wednesday at least and just took them over last Friday night.

For both sets Mike only charged us $120. Granted we provided the seals but still that is cheap labor!

lawnmowers not needed during winter time- to the shed!!! garbage can stink- to the outside!!! Car can take a little snow-Outside!!! Set up the bikes on a lift or jacks and do the work. I am fortunate enough to live in close proximity to Gas Man so I can use his garage. I could even put up his bike in my garage to make room in his and Uma could still park in the garage. Gas Man, this winter I would like to do the HID mod, the hog tunes mod, and the security this winter if you wouldn't mind helping with that. Prolly have to wait till early in the next year... Tax return money!!!!:rockwoot:

So if I could reserve some lift space in advance? I will bring the beer or other adult beverage if you would like. And I can have Martha make some good Mexican food if you like.

z06boy 07-16-2010 10:39 AM

Looks like I'll be changing the plugs in both bikes this weekend as well as air filters. Ordered a new set of Pilot Power 2CT's for the R6 and and the R1.

Don't have a winter here, but summer is dumb hot. I have to wait until just before the sun comes up to do anything. I'll be sweating still because it's like 95, but not as bad as in the middle of the day when it's 110+. I gotta change the oil in both vehicles, strip off the street fairings of the R6, throw it on the trailer and bring it in for service.

Don't see that happening anytime soon.

I thought about procrastinating fixing the busted water line, but then I realized I smelled like old man. Now how am I suppose to win Racedoll's heart smelling like I've been rolling around with 10 wet dogs?

I really need to check the vfr's valves and get to plastic welding the fairings. I've gotten so lazy, I'm pathetic.

Dnyce 07-20-2010 02:15 AM

took me awhile to take the bike in for seals and bushings, still gotta check the valves for peace of mind, but the day after i got the bike back from racetech i took it apart and threw the rotors and pads on, grips probably tomorrow, valves this week.
