Ducati is a sponsor.
Aprilla's were used in some sequences for technical (stunts) reasons.

If a scene calls for a Lambo to be blown up, do you blow up a real lambo or a Fiero in a Lambo suit?

anthonyk 06-24-2010 01:14 PM

Even the case cover in the top pic still says Aprilia. What the hell? Would have been simpler to buy a Duc, no?

C'mon now, Aprilia > Fiero. :lol

A $12-15K bike is nothing to a major studio, so I don't see that as a concern.

pauldun170 06-24-2010 01:19 PM

Pic is real.
Bike is an Aprilla with Ducati bits tacked on.

Stunt coordinator prefers Aprilla
Sponsor is Ducati

have a beer
You end up with Aprillacati

Tom couldnt get his feet down on a real duc, also that is not diaz, shes too tall and would make him look like a midget

Gas Man 06-24-2010 01:24 PM

And what other 46 yr old men don't have gray hair... especially in this day and age!

You mean the Ducati is not capable of performing for the technical reasons and they had to use Italy's real motorcycle company's products, right?:lol

Plus it's got a real douchebag at the controls, so it might as well be a vespa.

And Carmen Diaz doesn't? :lol

derf 06-26-2010 12:00 AM

I just watched a featurette about the making of the movie where cruise talks about riding that bike between bulls during the running of the bulls, and the guy is full of horseshit. So I totally understand that its movie promotion and therfore its supposed to be bullshit but damn! Cruise was talking about sliding the bike sideways between the bulls because the ground was slick, and about how he wasnt scared of laying the bike down, but he didn't want to let diaz get hurt

What the hell does the Dorsoduro have to do with people dressing up an SXV to look like a Hypermotard?

The point is when they needed a supermoto that can perform, they had to break out the SXV and dress it up to look like a Ducati because obviously the Hypermotard couldn't cut it.

Is it possible that the ducati was just too big for cruise? and that they needed a smaller bike to make him look normal size? The bike in the picture looks like it might be lowered a little
