DLIT 06-30-2010 05:37 PM

Thanks. Anybody ever remove wheel tape? Is it hard to get it off without ruining the shine of the wheel?

marko138 06-30-2010 05:38 PM

What do the wheels say?

Trip 06-30-2010 05:38 PM

If you are careful and use heat and goo gone, you should be able to get it off without messing up the powder coat.

It says a couple things. Has Monster on there, and some racing team. He put 'em on there really well, but I don't do wheel tape.

It'll proly take a while before I can put down faster times than my R6 on the R1...if it ever even sees the track.

DLIT 06-30-2010 07:35 PM

He's got it geared -1 and _1 (that "I'm gay" shit is dumb). I think I'll be rocking stock gearing first.

Not disputing what's right or wrong just everytime you speak before something happens seems to go the other way!!..just speaking from my own experience in life!...The guy proly got more $$$ from someone else or changed his mind and kept it or traded for something else he wanted would be my guess...Bottom line...not meant to be...something better waiting down the road!

I am betting the guy told the dude who came and bought it that he had a sure thing at dlits money and the dude offered him more and he took it. I would do the same shit. I would of never told dlit it was reserved for him in the first place though. That is shady. I don't consider it reserved til I have the cash in my hand.

True story.

DLIT 06-30-2010 09:17 PM

i shoulda gave him some hold money, ya. But still...when you give somebody your word, at least give him a chance to see if he/she can match what somebody else is offering. I woulda paid $7,800 for it. That's what the book is, plus he has almost $2k in mods.

Fuck it. I'm looking at a '08 1000RR tomorrow. Same price, just that it's bone stock. I started these searches with a R1 or RR in mind. We'll see what happens...

I know I'm not posting SHIT until I have it my garage, lol. God, I want to drink so much right now.

Either that or someone offered him the same money but was ready to pay on the spot. If he told DLIT it was his if he got the cash by Friday that was stupid on his part. If he sat around waiting for that money while someone was waving the same amount or more in his face that would be even dumber.

It still sucks and good luck finding another. Prices do seem a little high there. There are at least a half dozen similar R1s on Craigslist around here listed for $7,500 or less.

Particle Man 06-30-2010 09:32 PM

that sucks dude. Sorry. :(

You may want to check cycletrader.com for the CBR. Here is one ad for a still new 08 for $7,600. New matters to some more than others. If it matters to you it may be worth the extra that shipping will cost you. That also assumes the dealer isn't chucking hundreds more on top for prep fees and shit.

There's plenty for that or lower here, too. Just too many miles for my liking. I can get a leftover '09 for $9,400 OTD in Cali. I'm gonna bring that quote to a dealer here and see what they can do on a leftover '09.

101lifts2 06-30-2010 10:31 PM

Why a liter for the street?

IMO...get the 1000rr 2009 instead of an 07 R1. The R1 needs mods to get it right. The Honda has good shit outta the box. It's too much power for my tastes tho.

the chi 07-01-2010 08:49 AM

600 track bike FTW! Good luck finding a bike man, I feel ya. I wouldnt mind having a 1k for the street either, I think Im getting lazy, but I wouldnt trade my 600 on the track for a 1k.

Looking at a '08 RR today. Same price, bone stock, 5000 miles.

That's an awesome bike as long as it's not one of the one's with the oil issues.

Good luck with your search.

the chi 07-01-2010 09:02 AM

Great bike. I babysat one for a few months and other than the crappy honda seat, she was everything one could hope for.

Dave 07-01-2010 09:12 AM

Get the 08!

Explain the oil issue.

defector 07-01-2010 10:53 AM

They burn more oil than BP.

Ouch. That real common, or are only certain ones affected?

the chi 07-01-2010 10:58 AM

AFAIK, only certain 08's had that issue and it was kinda random. The friend who had the 08 I got to play with was very concerned about it, but his didnt have the problem.

Not really sure how common it is.
I know two people with them. One had a problem, the other didn't. I think he said Honda replaced the pistons on the burner.

Sorry just saw this but it looks like you're going for the 08 R1 anyways.

If you do a google/Honda forums search I'm sure you'll see info on the 08 Honda's.

Don't get me wrong I love the 08 and later 1000RR but SEVERAL had oil burning/using issues with the 08's and I just wanted to make you aware if you hadn't heard anything about it. I'm not sure about the 09's and 10's.

DLIT 07-02-2010 10:34 AM

Went riding with some forum guys yesterday. One had a '08 RR. Said it burns about .4 of a quart every second full tank. That's horrible.

That's insane. A buddy has an 04 1kRR and it doesn't burn anything. He changes the oil maybe once every 8k and the thing still chugs along. Is that street riding or track?

Street. Fucking guy had me worried, too. I was following him through our loop and he went pretty wide exiting some corners.

Gotchya. I'm thinking I may have been pushing him a bit. Any time I get a chance to give a liter bike a chance to pull on me, I let him try. He was all leathered up and shit, too. But I backed off after he busted a couple corners pretty bad.

Because unless you're still in your 20's, high rpm's get really old on long trips.

Good choice on the Yamaha. Way better fit & finish than Honduh any day of the week.
