She passed!
Holy crap I have a teenage driver.
Holy crap my insurance just went up. Fuck. Wait  I encouraged this. I now have more freedom - in the game of you buy / I fly she'll do errands for me. Right?!? Of course, I'll just keep telling myself that. Enter our track car - she got a key for her birthday. Note, that was a key - not the car. She can drive the car when we don't need it for the track. What are we THINKING??!?!! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...m/539b2143.jpg |
You're fucked. Welcome to my reality.
|
Looks all ready for her to wreck the piss out of it. Congrats I guess lol.
|
Yeah, now's a good time to make sure all the coverage is up to snuff.
|
Is it manual?
|
Coverage is up to date, my first move.
It's a 2006 six-speed. My husband has already taken it spinning off the track  roll bar is installed. So, why am I still nervous? |
Get her a 1.6 NA miata to fart around in. Pick it up for less than $2K, and keep the nice one for yourselves.
|
Cuz you gave a teenager an attention getting car?
Good luck, I'm sure she'll do fine while all her friends eat their livers in envy. Not only does she ride a motorcyle, she now has access to a bad ass car. |
I've never heard of a miata referred to as a bad ass car. Yes, it autocrosses and tracks great, but it's always and forever will be a "chick" car or an enlarged go cart.
|
Then don't go to http://www.monstermiata.com
It may change your mind. These guys put 302 V8s in them, and they are Cobra eaters. Now THAT'S fucking BADASS. |
Congrats!?
If you are concerned you can install GPS to track fastest mileage obtained. |

It's a car that TURNS tho... |

Well, since she's been riding and driving longer than some of the members of this forum - I'll trust her more than them. That doesn't mean it's smart. But, hell - you only live once, right? |
If you don't already have a few grey hairs, you soon will. I worried my ass off when my daughter started driving. On the plus side, you will be amazed at how much time it will free up not being mommy-cab.

Welcome to one of the best/worst times of you life!!!:tremble::tremble::tremble:
Speaking as a mom who knows......get her a big ugly sedan with lots of sheet metal, antilock brakes and airbags and put her on her own insurance! My hubby does insurance and if you don't want her mistake to follow you around as higher rates get your teens their own policy. It costs more up front but saves you in the long run. That is a cute little car but it won't stand a chance against a SUV even with a role bar. Track is the safest place to learn but when you are against bigger vehicles little cars just don't hold up well. Teens make judgment errors and you want lots of car around them when it catches up with them. I know, my daughter wrecked 2. She rode motorcycles/snowmobiles for years and still wrecked 2 cars. She is 21 and I still worry that I am going to get that call. Good luck |

Good. Nothing like flipping a convertible and becoming a flap jack. |

Mine has wrecked 2 already, and that is now why I am currently in hell, dealing with wheel bearings on a FWD '91 Celica. I, dad (aka: Idiot), have gotten her yet a 3rd car now, as I know better than to have her on my policy. It's cheaper to replace cars. Trust me. First car was a Jeep Cherokee ($1400). This beefy little truck served her well, when she rolled it in a snowstorm, after spinning out, and hitting a snow berm. Second car was a 4000 lb. Mustang GT ($2000). This heavy ass car served her well when she got T-boned at a blind intersection (and during the balance of winter, taught her how to control a skid, because there is NOTHING more tail-happy than a 5.0 'Stang). Current/next victim car is a '91 Celica convertible ($1000 - "mechanic's special"...just add wheel bearings!). This one at least has an airbag. Let's hope she doesn't test this feature! (but at least I've anticipated the correct "crumple zone" features of her cars so far...). I guess anything is better than having this shit on my insurance, however...even laying on my back for 3 days, with an oxy/acetylene torch, hot wrenching stuck fucking parts off a 20 year old Toyota... Kids. All I can say is, she better fucking take good care of me when I'm old! :bash: |
Is that one the spawn of the one you tried to teach to ride?
|
Damn, I had to buy my own car. A $500 rust bucket vw rabbit that leaked when it rained. Eventually the brake lines rusted through somewhere under the body and my sister wrecked it trying to stop at an intersection.
Wow, remembering that, I fully endorse the miata. Looks to be in good shape. :) |
I started in a '83 Old cutlass ciera with a 4.3L diesel and no reverse in the auto trans.
0-60 in 3 miles flat, and 25 mpg no matter what you did. Rear window leaked when it rained, and i was welcome at any summer party as I brought the mosquito fogger  Parents still have it if you are interested. |

It only takes 1/4 ounce of peer pressure and 1/8 table spoon of stupid for her to wreck a vehicle like that.
|
avatard.....took me two cars but she is now totally on her own.
She got a 2000 escort and rolled it comming home from college for spring break in the snow...after we told her not to go that way on the highway. She then had "use" of our little truck. She says she slammed on the brakes for a deer and went off the road, I think she was on the phone. Total number 2. I repoed the 2001 gmc sonoma and we use it to bomb around the yard and get stuff we don't want to put in the purdy new truck. She bought herself a 1997 madza protege with 225000 miles on it. Been in the ditch with it a couple times also. She is 21 but if I had my way I would take her license away. She lives on her own and pays her bills so its her life but I still worry. |
Is it ok that Im chuckling that all wreck replies have been women?
|
But women are better drivers. dontcha know...

The scary thing is that right now, she's using my truck to get to work, until I can fix her Celica. Today, my heart was not into getting greasy from head to toe in 90+ heat, and NJ humidity. Maybe tomorrow... |

congrats! eh, you know it's like 1st bikes, everyone has an opinion on what you should get her as a first car....I'm sure she's pretty excited!

You'd think I bought her a viper, or let her anywhere near my car..... FWIW, we had Lexie out on Wednesday in Bo's Audi. Ross was in the back seat - all he had to say was "Some drivers' ed instructor is going to be piiiiissssssed" Wheels squealing in every corner... |
Between my me, my sister, and my step-bro/sis... my step-bro was the worst. He got a bunch of tickets and totalled two cars, losing his license before he turned 17.
My sister and I both got into minor fender benders (no damage) and my step-sis was spotless. It all just depends on the kid. |
