Poll:Should I or should'nt I?

Ok, I have a 1985 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 5-speed. The car is almost completely stock, the engine was freshened and a previous owner painted the engine bay(poorly) and what was removed(smog and some trim I have, yes...I have all of the original smog equipment. I am torn, I know there were millions of these cars made(figuratively) and most have been customized to some extent and I wanna do some things to MY car, but is it worthy of keeping stock because of the rarity(is it?) or should I shoot the moon?

P.S. forgive the spelling...its a 2 valium and 2 vicodin afternoon...

Unless it says svo or gt turbo on the back theres nothing special about it. Have fun

Dave 11-04-2010 04:07 PM

I know but I'm trying to get us back to fourth

OneSickPsycho 11-04-2010 04:16 PM

I've always wanted one of those... make it yours man, make it awesome and love it until you decide you want to give it to me.

z06boy 11-04-2010 04:21 PM

Is that car FI or carbureted ? I can't remember. I had a stock 92 LX Hatch and basically redid the whole car before I was done.

That was a fun car. Stock block from Summit Racing and started from there...Vortech S Trim...Edlebrock Heads blah...blah...blah.

The reason for the new block is because I had a boo boo on a dyno with N20...DOH !! The car still ran but there was a small crack at the top of the block because of a loud backfire due to me letting off of the gas before the nitrous button :wtfru:...yep my fault.

Dave 11-04-2010 04:24 PM

Just remember stock five oh blocks like splitting in half and plan accordingly ;)

I'm actually in a similar situation myself. Trying to decide if its worth trying to resto my daytona or scoop up a shell in better shape to swap all my junk into. That and whether to stay sohc or move to a srt spec dohc

That is classic styling.........Better than the SN95's imo.

Go ahead and mod what's underneath, but don't change the wheels or add ghey body kits to it.

Avatard 11-04-2010 05:01 PM

That car would be worth the same as a resto-mod, so I say make it your own, update it to your taste and today's best shit, and enjoy the hell out of it.

Stock looks....+ engine and suspension upgrades=win

TommyHotWheel 11-04-2010 10:32 PM

The list I am planning is...sub frame connectors, upgraded torque boxes, lowered 1.5 inches, poly bushings, new K member, and then some interior and I wanna pull the engine and toss in a 347. I will not be touching the body, I want a sleeper look. The 85 was the last year they used carbs on Mustangs, that was one of the reasons I was worried about cutting in to it. As for the wheels, I have the parts for a 5 lug conversion, I want 17s, like the Saleen style or the FR500, I want handling. I am really still on the fence, but if I can figure out what needs to be done to upgrade it and return it to stock, I will start. Hey OSP...I may not sell ya the 'Stang...but I have a Tiller...carbon fiber baby.

Pull out the 5.0L and put in a 2.3L.

Agree with this.

If you want any dart stuff, let me know I'll put you in contact with somebody... I know ownership.

wildchild 11-05-2010 11:48 AM

sell it to me for $1000 and let me cut it up.

let 'er rip. stock is nice but you'd get bored babying it. fix it up a little and then use it.

Dart would be nice, I have a buddy that works at Rousch and a friend I made down here races dirt track...he gets parts from the Nascar scrap guys. A nascar spec 358 would be The SHIZZZ! But thats down the line.

Gas Man 11-05-2010 02:48 PM

Well if you need... PM me

TommyHotWheel 11-05-2010 03:30 PM

Thanks Gas, but engine work is last on the list, I will be rolling thru Detroit next time I come up and hopefully getting a tour of building 50 or the Livonia Campus. In the meantime, I have my eye on a suspension package and there is a set of 17 inch wheels that would look great when the disability check finally gets here...

Gas Man 11-05-2010 08:13 PM

Engine & suspension should be first & second on the list.

Exhaust

TommyHotWheel 11-05-2010 11:04 PM

Engine is second, maybe third, cuz the interior is worn and I want to get the stance and handling right before I throw more power at it. I have had drag cars and street racers, so I want a car that will turn and want to focus on that first, I really want to drive this car and enjoy driving it. Anyways, all of the articles and my seat of the pants say this car has more power than the current suspension can handle, so if I can get it to hook up, I may be happy with just some new heads a cam and better headers for a while.
