Hey all you buellidiots....

"Buell has added another liquid-cooled steed to its stable of streetfighter, sport and adventure sportbikes for 2009.
A café racer for the 21st century, the new 1125CR nods respectfully to the past with clubman bars, flyscreen and a tail cowl, while a 146-hp, liquid-cooled 1125cc v-twin engine and Buell Intuitive Response Chassis (IRC) deliver the performance and handling of a modern superbike. Final-drive gearing is lowered about 8 percent from the 1125R to optimize acceleration. "Part superbike and part streetfighter, the 1125CR is my vision of a 21st century café racer," said Erik Buell, chairman and chief technical officer at Buell Motorcycle Company. "It's got Clubman-style bars and a flyscreen instead of a fairing. Then we geared it down to optimize acceleration. With a class-leading weight-to-horsepower ratio, the 1125CR takes streetfighter performance to a new level." Other models in the Buell lineup also get tweaked for the new model year. Buell XB Lightning Streetfighters get blacked-out frames, forks, engines and other components for 2009. Lightning models powered by the Thunderstorm 1203 engine upgrade to the four-pad, eight-piston front caliper that debuted on the 1125R in 2008. The XB12Ss gets fitted with the same supermoto-inspired suspension as the 2008 XB12STT, and the new seat on the 2009 XB9SX lowers the seat height by 1.3 inches to 30.1 inches. The Buell 1125R is available in new body and wheel colors and with tinted windscreens for 2009. Also new for 2009 on the 1125R and 1125CR models are targeted fuel injectors, relocated O2 sensors, and updated engine spark and fuel maps. Buell claims the combination of these features offers improved drivability below 6000 rpm, crisper throttle response, improved heat management, and significantly improved fuel economy. The updated engine spark and fuel maps will also be made available for 2008 1125R models. Also new is the Buell Ulysses Police XB12XP "special duty" motorcycle intended for government agencies and private security firms requiring pursuit-and-patrol vehicle capable of travel over a variety of road surfaces. It comes equipped with a special wiring harness for installation of an Emergency Response Kit, which includes special compact, hard-shell top and side cases, a siren and LED police pursuit lamps. Buell reports that the Lightning XB12S and Lightning Super TT XB12STT will not be produced for 2009." im on the fense, no hating on my part, i just like to call names  |
I was just about to make a thread about that.
|
I'd like to see what's under those gynormous covers on either side, they make the bike look like "Hanz und Franz". If you could ditch those then it might be a good looking bike, but as is it's got WAY too much plastic!
|
is it possible for them to produce a not fugly bike? id hate to see erik's taste in women
|
I's trying way too hard to be a B-King when it should try to be the Street Triple. Put dual rounds and a jagged flyscreen up front, and uncover those rads, and you have a hot fighter.
|
i like it better then the 1125, not saying much...
|
As much as I hate to go with the crowd,I'd like that bike a lot better without the scoops. They always make me think of Raisin Bran and bowel movements! Although,I will say it looks much better in the black version. I think Erik Buell is the Pablo Picasso of motorcycle design. I know this doesn't pertain to everyone but it seems to me that you buy a Buell for reasons other than looks.
|
Yeah, I like everything but the scoops. Maybe even if they were just all flat black like at the tips it would look better.

they are oversized on that bike. the fairing on the 1125R kinda made them blend in... on that one they stick out like a swolen thumb... I do prefer the black frame/wheels and red accents. And I am anxious to see how the new "updates" help economy and drivablitiy below 6K (tho it's really only below 4K that's an issue) But dear god, they geared it DOWN?!?!?!?! It will be impossible to keep the front end down! |
Sweet. Go Buell.
|
I think the scoops actually look good on that bike!

I'm with OSP... I think that is DEAD SEXY
|
Looks like some drunk mounted the saddle bags on the front instead of the back.
|
I don't have a problem with that bike's looks. I love the new look of the XB's.
All black and all bad ass. http://buell.com/_media/images/bikes...er_XB12R_6.jpg |

I love the front. It looks like a mesquito. The lightning is bad ass too:

I have been HIGHLY considering a buell for my next bike.

I don't get the point of the clubman bars. I thought the clubmans were for people that had risers and wanted a cheap way to get a clipon riding position out of their bike. Why not just spec it out with clipons? I guess it would give you the option of switching to risers if you wanted.
|
i think they all look good
|
I mostly love the blacked out frame, and colored windscreen!
The white/blue 1125R is pure sex  Quote:

I really like the black/red combo on the XB's. That looks really good. Honestly, I think the streetfighter/cafe buell looks better than the 1125R, to me the front end looks too tall on the 1125R compared to the tail, it's hard to explain but it almost looks old-fashioned. Older sportbikes the front end was visually higher than the rear, the more modern trend is for the back to be higher, that height ratio seems more visually right, and the cafe looks that way to me. Think about an older FZR or GSXR compared to a new R1 or GSXR. And I know most of you beuller's are going to say that buell isn't about going with modern trends, but to me the XB has the tall tail look, I think the 1125R would look much better with the same "stance".
Still don't like the cover though, too much plastic on a "streetfighter" or "cafe". ESPECIALLY when compared to the relative nakedness of other buells. |
oh, i def. like the looks of this ....
http://buell.com/_media/images/bikes...er_XB12R_6.jpg over the 1125r. i must agree, as much as i like the Buells it's the scoops that kinda turn me off. anyone have pics of the white/blue 1125r mentioned earlier? |

With the "back end up, front down" look. Not having that is actually one of the things that makes the 1125R more comfortable than your standard SS bike. You get on and your nuts aren't instantly slamming into the tank (or airbox in this case) Thats the first comment I get from anyone that sits on my bike after riding a R1/6, GSXR, ZX6/10, or CBR, "man this thing is comfortable" Jalaan, you lazy ass. |

thank you cutty. still like the XBs better. |
I'm really like'n the Firebolt... and the 1125r... by the time I'm ready... the problems with the 1125r should be all figured out. and hopefully it'll get a bit better MPG...
|
Guess I am going with the herd here the width of the bike with the scoops takes away from the line of the bike. Another year or two I bet these will be great machines all the way around. But they have a ways to go berfore I would swap my Duc or pass up a Super Dukes for one

the new 1125r's MGP says 35-54... FUCK... if they get that... with a 5.3gal tank... that's over 200 mile range... I think I just found my next bike... I'll give it another year and watch the forums closely for issues though.
|
Quote:

that's what I'm counting on... as it looks like they'll more than likely be the only affordable V-twin sport bikes left...

I put in 5 gal even, and I pushed it to the pump. 168 miles when the fuel light comes on, you have 25 miles period... unless you are riding hard... then you have about 15. |

^^^^^ oh, i'm almost sure of that.

BTW...I just did an oil change, adjusted clutch and checked primary chain tension this evening. First time doing those on this bike. |

they seem to be right on with the Firebolt as far as mileage... just the 3.5 gal tank sucks. I'd prefer not to drop under a 200 mile range on trips (in town I get 185 or so) |

Currently I see 29/32. range of about 130/140 miles.

why i never buy a first year production bike....
then again i have an sp1 and would kill for a sp2... |
True, but with a lil work you can get all the changes (except the swingarm spools :( ) onto the 08... and still have a 25th anny, and the blue frame/swingarm.
I'm thinking about swapping out headers (thus getting updated O2 placement as well as better heat control) and then getting the new spark and map. Should be up to par. |

 honestly... I've been looking at the 1125r since it came out... but all the problems I've been reading about... I just want them to be sorted out... I talked to the military dealership here... I can put one on order and pick it up as late as October next year... and if I like the 2010's better... I can switch to them... $300 down... and I'm locked into the lowest price from now till then... right now it's MSRP... but mine includes tax and title. delivered to where I want. still not sure if I'm gonna do it... the bike's more than I need right now... and I need more seat time... but if I can put it off till Oct... I don't make any payments till then...
just gotta see if it's worth it... see what the stateside dealerships offer them at. who knows... i may get back and sit on my bike and realize I need another couple years... but doesn't hurt to weigh my options |
Quote:
|
actual seat time... not much... 6k miles... but that's over two years... before and after deployments.
actually will probably double my mileage on my trip. that's why, if the program will save me a decent amount, I'll order it and take delivery in Aug. oh forgot... one big reason... is I promised I'd give my bike to my bro for his senior year in college... as an early grad present. |
haha... aren't you sweet?? I think my big bro sent me a card w/ $50.
|
 well I'm proud as hell of my bro...

how is the DIY factor on Buells? i hear going to the dealer for stuff is crazy. |

I wonder if any KTM/Aprilia/Bimota/etc dealer would be considered an authorized dealer for maintenance on the 1125r :idk:
|
Ebbs, most dealers are between MSRP to a couple grand off. Depends on location. Heard of one dealer dropping the Buell line and they are pushing them out for 9K.
You should be able to pick one up for 11 plus ttl. Quote:

However, I will say that as far as bike dealerships. HD dealers have about the best customer service.
|
Quote:
|
That may be true.... IDK
|
Quote:
-expect to pay premium prices for EVERYTHING parts and labor -Don't expect a call back on anything, parts ordered, question on service, recalls etc. -Don't expect to get in same day... or next day. Hope for next week! -Mine at least will pick up and deliver (nice since i'm 100 miles away) but I'm out the bike for 3 days at least. |
I've been to 3 diffrent HD dealerships... the customer service does decline quite a bit when you mention your not getting a harley or here to talk about a harley... or ride up on a sport bike... :idk:
|
The last time I had the wife's bike in... was her 1k service... make an appt... drop off sunday evening, they promise it done by end of work week, to avoid lost w/e riding time. Called me Wed night... said they found the throttle cables were wrong and bike was done. I said done with the service but have cables on order? Nope... done with everything, new cables installed and everything... GREAT SERVICE!!

secret revealed
Ok, not sure who it was but someone was asking what's under the pods on the 1125R.
Here ya go Radiator and overflow tank. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/a.../1125R/pod.jpg |
^^^ there's one on each side? (Radiator and overflow tank)
|
Quote:
|
That was me.
The side radiators aren't a bad look, hell the TLS and Superhawk had them. I think you could pretty easily relocate or disguise the overflow tank and the hell with the radiators, leave 'em right where they are. My favorite bike in the world is the Vyrus, and it's all mechanical everywhere. In the end it boils down to the fact that Buells have always been about style AND substance, innovative style, unique substance. The ONLY drawback was the motor. And this new one seems too much of a departure from the XB buells. Lets be honest, you don't buy a buell to have the best sportbike out there, you buy it to own a buell. And this bike just doesn't "click" for me the way the old buells did. :idk: I'm glad you love it, and I'm not knocking the bike itself, it just doesn't do it for me. |
I am not terribly fond of the look of the 1125 but recently because my wife is looking for a sport bike we stopped at a Buell dealer where we were offered an 08 from 10k before we had even indicated a serious interest. If my wife is still interested in the spring we may have one of these. Just a question for the Beull-aholics here. Are aftermaerket pulleys available to alter the gearing?
|

still think they are gross
flame suit activated... |
they're not for everyone... that's a good thing imo...
|
Quote:
I haven't found a need to alter the gearing though. :idk: You lower the gearing and you won't keep the front end down. Raise it, and damn... why do you need to go 180 mph? |
If the side scoops were part of a fairing it would look way better! But just floating out there in thin air. Yuck!

so i was looking for pics of the blast for my girl to look at and just found this picture of a man next to his buell
http://www.j3p.com/sabmag/mbuell.jpg |
Im surprised an HD dealership would even stoop so low as to service a lowly Buell. I mean, they can't fuckin stand them or the people that ride them... Most HD stealerships around here won't even fly the Buell banner anymore. I think they find them threatening.

Its a shame... Being pro Buell could only make them a stronger more profitable dealership you would think.... But maybe they are worried it cuts into their HD sales or something? Or HD customers are turned away by a dealership that sells HD and Buell or something? I just don't get it.
|
Quote:
Buell doesn't have the profit margin of HD. The reason... IMO not as many customers through the door. The reason for this is because they FAIL TO ADVERTISE!! When was the last time you saw an independant dealership advertise for Buell?? Maybe they should try that a bit. :idk: My closest dealer is over an hour away, but they treat me decent. They are kinda buell stupid, so badweb is my friend, but they do listen and treat me well so it's all good. |
Buell is only going to get stronger and stronger... HD better recognize and start stepping up the Buell program or they are going to get left in the dust when Buell splits off and goes their own way. HD sales are already shit for the year, you would think that they would be hanging on to ANYTHING that might make its way out their doors.
|
I'm really hoping that the aquisition of MV will help the Buell dealer network...but we'll see.

If the buells werent so small, it would be the next bike I put in the garage. And not because im a HD owner. I was a complete disbeliever in buell before t-mall got one. I didnt even ride it very far, at 6'4" its far too uncomfortable for me. But it is the most nimble bike ive ever ridden. It didnt give me the confidence my rc51 did, didnt feel as planted, but everytime i touched the bars the bike did everything I wanted. It wasnt lightning fast, but it had great acceleration.
