I have a date tonight
with a garden hose, a can of brake cleaner and alot of elbow grease~!
the pig is getting its yearly bath tonight:rockout: |
Don't forget to cup the balls.
|
brake cleaner is not good. Don't use it. You'll thank me later. Get a biodradable bike wash and use that.
|
Goo-Gone will solve all your problems.
|
i was talking about on the hard parts, not on the bike itself
like my brakes.... |

didnt know, thanks for the heads up |
I've read about too many people having brake issues after they use it on their bikes. I use Liquid Performance biodegradable Bike Wash on my calipers when I clean them. That, a hose, and a toothbrush make the pistons sparkle. The difference in braking is noticable as well.
|
I've always used Breakkleen... well on my truck... not on my bike... but anything that's metal (non painted of course) that I wanted really fuck'n clean... works awesome.... and rids you of those pesky brain cells too if your not in an extremely well ventilated area... like say a wind storm...

I thought this was going to be another PC pining thread. PC you should take advantage of Drewpy more, he is so whipped it's not even funny. He pines about you all the time. You could get a lot out of him if you tried.

I hate cleaning my bike, I dread it becuz it takes for freekin ever..you can blow a perfectly good day away if really get into it and do it right....but damn it's always purdy when you're finished...LOL
Goo gone works great, I'll second that! Use it on nearly every spot that got grease or road grime around it. Always use some kerosene to clean that chain too atleast a couple times a year. Note to self, but the cigarette out first  |
where can this goo gone be had?

If you use BRAKE CLEANER to CLEAN your BRAKES and then your brakes don't function properly, you fucked up. I use brake cleaner all the time. It's an excellent solvent. Many parts shops will use brake cleaner as a general parts cleaner. In fact, the guy who owns the local GMD Computrack uses brake cleaner to clean all the parts of forks/shocks when he does a rebuild/oil/seals. Quote:

... i beg to differ... check out my rim pic from the front page, before i lost access to it
i had so much dirt under there i forgot i had polished AL rims... |
So did you get anything done or did you just post about maybe doing some work???
|
i got the water wetter put in, new plugs and polished the lip on the rims... along with washing it

i know u havent met me, but based on my posts u oughta know i know the dif between brake fluid and brake cleaner, c'mon. and how the hell would i spray brake fluid? like i said, depends on what brand u use. i found some i can spray anywhere, but the 1st kind i used it fucked shit up |
i used brake cleaner to pull all of the paint off of my rim so i now have a polished lip on my front rim

luck
|
seems the metalulogy is different from the lip and the main part of the spokes and "spine" of the wheels and wasnt affected by the brake cleaner, if i am lying im dying
|
itd be the coating is different, not the metalurgy-i was thinkin using tape, and being careful at the edges. i'll give it a shot.

For the record RC-51 rims are like no other I have ever seen! The outer paint will FALL off with a harsh solvent. Shit I think a gas spill would have taken that paint off. They look like the factory clear coats them over the silver but the rough spokes and inner edge is black powder coated. Weird stuff... But looks great when cleaned... if you were expecting that! |
