I have fallen in love...
He had the most incredible voice...a deep rumble...
his skin was so smooth, crystal clear... we danced under the stars in a light mist... the music of the road and the roar of the engine... my new love, Ducati 999!!!! Got to ride one tonight, incredible!!! Thats it, one day i will have to have one! *happy dance* |
everybody should be required to own a ducati at some point. just STANDING next to one while its idling makes you orgasm.

not for I. I shall remain true to the Inline 4's. I dislike the ducatis, got problems with aprilias, just dont want no Vtwin.
|
why? just curious...

Ahh Rae welcome to my world I can quote you all the stats about how and inline 4 will will whip a twin..
The I rode a a used 749 at a dealership in 06 where I was having a Goldwing serviced (salesmen saw me looking at it and asked me 3 times if I wanted to ride it, you ask me 3 times to ride a honda 50 I am riding) 2 hours later after teaaring up Manchester NH and the surrounding area I was hooked. Two weeks later I bought a left over 05 999. The clatter of the clutch, the nasty snarl when you lean into her with torque pulling all the way through.. The Chassis that lets an old dubber with limited skills like me drag a knee when I want to. At the end of our recent New Englad Busa Ride I let one of my fellow busa pilots take the 999 out, he described it as 2 wheeled crack. All of that said it is very like an attractive itlaian woman I once dated.. gorgeous.. performs like nothing else but is high maintince.. Like to many people I no longer want a Duc I want one of each Duc's |
The 999 is by far the most comfortable Duc I've ever seen. There's one on my desktop right now- and the pic doesn't do it justice.
|
it's also the most ugly... IMO...
996 followed VERY closely by the 1098 http://www.mcnews.com.au/Wallpaper/D...R_1024x768.jpg |

Rae,
Come out to visit SoCal and I can assemble a mean collection of Apes, Ducks and Gooses for you to play with. |
I've only ridden one Duc in my life and it and a Turbo Hayabusa is what got me into riding again after taking a break for a few years.
This 999 belongs to a member here...nhgunnut...or Rick as I know him. Thanks Rick for your unselfishness and willingness to let someone take your sweet bikes out for a spin...or two...or three..... After visiting Rick and his wife in May 2007...I returned to NC and bought an R1 and R6...the wife has taken over the R6. We were back up visiting this past June and the wife was lucky enough to take the Duc out for a few days. Pics of the Duc and Busa... http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D480/ry%3D320/ Me after rolling it out of the garage warming it up...yeah his backyard sucks too...looking down a mountain. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D480/ry%3D320/ I got "stuck" riding the turbocharged Busa...:dribble: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D480/ry%3D320/ Ready to roll...:rockout: http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D480/ry%3D320/ |
Rae you are speaking my language. My all time favorite Ducati is the 999S. What a gorgeous bike.
LOUD CLUTCHES SAVE LIVES. |

I'm still thinking about getting me a Duck. But it will have to be the aircooled Desmodue though. For some reasons I can't get into the Desmoquattro or the Testastretta liquid cooled engines. Yep, getting a Duck is definitely way low on my list of things to do but maybe one of these days.
|
I a perfect world an ST3 for commuting, an 848 for track/racing and a 1098 for weekends...Of course I can't afford to even do the maintenance on all that, so I will have to make a jap inline 4 carry the whole load.

Though, you're right. It looks nothing like the 999. Maybe a modern look to the 998. |
Oh, didn't know that.
I don't like buying used. New with a fat warranty is all I need. |

I like the look of the 999/749 over the 1098/848. At least the 999 is very distinctive and doesn't have the R1 headlight of the 1098. Not only that but so far I have yet to hear anybody rave about the handling of the 1090/848.
If prices on the 999 is low enough, I might consider get one and convert it to a street fighter. |

I love the looks of the 749S... Don't know if I could pull myself to drop that kind of money. Or to buy a V-2... i could be wrong!
fnfalman- On the contrary I believe Sport Rider loved the handling of the 1098R alot when they tested it a month or two back. Now on the other hand with the 848 i believed they used the word "quirkey" to describe the suspension. I think in a cost cutting measure they went cheap on the rear end. When pushed at racetrack speeds theres a lack of feel, compression problems, and the forks bottomed out pretty bad. Plus they said that the street ride is harsh as hell.... arent all Ducs tho??? |

First is adjustablility the suspension and the rake can be set for any one of any size. Not just the 150 to 180lb guy. (this is important to me cause while no longer as big as I was I am still larger than that) Another thing that the 749/999 chassis has going for it is ergos. The 999 is one of the most comfortable 1 liter bikes I have ever sat on. The next is one of perception. I have heard various ideas why it feels this way but V Twin Sportbike simply feels easier to handle and more precise. It gives allows even an old duffer like me with limited skills to drag a knee. I love inline 4s for some applications but they come into their own between 75 and 150mph the Twins like the Duc and the RC51 (I have spent te most times on these) are in their element from 30 - 100mph. These are the speeds I ride most often at. I have no saddle time on the 1098 but striclty from a design perspective it has more HP and weighs less but also is a bit less sophisticated in areas of suspension adjust ment rake adjustment and ergos. That said I woudl still lke one if i could figure out a way to do it with out being shot in my sleep by an otherwise very tolerant woman I am married to.. on second thought I bring home another Ducati anytime soon wh wont wait form me to go to sleep |

I see the point, but sometimes i think i just need to ride a duc to understand |
Ok.... so I was at the IndyCar race yesterday in Kentucky, and was walking through the vendor area when something red and shiney caught my eye. I turned to look, but the crowd was in the way, but I noticed it was a booth promoting the Indy GP. So I grabbed my brother and fought thru the crowd only to find that it was two super(gay)motards. But wait.... I look up only to find CASEY STONERS 07' DESMO sitting right under the tent. After about 10 minutes of  on it, I asked the promoter..... it's real not a show bike!!! Man was that sweet... It would of been the highlite of the day had it not been for the fanfuckingtastic finish in the Indy race. I have pictures and vid on my phone but cant get em on here.
Lol, and I signed up for free tickets too... hope i win them! :rockwoot: |
