New SV for me?

Found this bike on another forum....thinking it's a good dealhttp://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=82691

Also this is what he said in response to my questions.....
"i will take the pics for you and it is a clean title i have in hand, the service was done right before i got the bike in may this year but the oil will need changing and if you get it i will have it changed before it is sold to anyone. if you would like the service records i can get them from the old owner."

He still hasn't said if it's been down.

Good deal? :idk:

Stupid job's preventing me from just leaving today to get it. :bash::lol:

OneSickPsycho 09-03-2008 09:35 AM

Looks pretty good... and if it has been down, odds are the damage is not very bad... Where is Omaha in relation to you? Perhaps you and Drewpy should road trip it this weekend.

OTB 09-03-2008 10:23 AM

Jmho

$3500 for a 17000 mile bike is high....if you can wait a couple of weeks, you'll see the selection of low-milage SV's go up and the prices drop, as students realize that they need money for school and stuff, not a payment and insurance they cannot afford.

But then, what do I know?

the chi 09-03-2008 10:26 AM

Havent looked into what its worth, but she looks in great shape and if he can provide all service records, she looks to be a very well cared for bike!

Im partial to the color too, looks AWESOME!!

But as usual, OTB is right on the money!!

I'm looking at two newer SVs right now, an 05 with 5200 miles for 3200, and an 04 with 8000 for 2800; markets might be different, but the prices will really start to plunge over the next few weeks.

the chi 09-03-2008 10:42 AM

I wish you were closer, Id have you keep an eye out for a good track bike or me...in case I came into some riches and all, you know...

J, keep us posted!!

Cutty72 09-03-2008 11:59 AM

Looks clean, though he doesn't have any pics of the left side. First things that usually get scratched is the side of the fairing, the mirrors, and possibly the tail. All look good, so either stayed upright, or have been replaced.

Again, like OTB said, a bit high on price.

psychochild28 09-03-2008 02:56 PM

Yea I'm not going to pay that but I'm not sure what to ask. Any of the one's i've found w/in a 12 hour drive are all over 4k even for 03's. Drewp thinks ask 3 and we'll drive the whole way. :idk:

R1up0n1 09-03-2008 09:19 PM

I wouldn't go with an SV at that mileage. Miy SV threw a rod bearing at 19,335 miles. I was working on another Zuk two weeks ago and had 20k....that one threw a rod bearing also.

dReWpY 09-03-2008 09:43 PM

OTB, whats your take on that bike, what would be a good price?

BobTheBiker 09-03-2008 10:00 PM

looks like a good deal to me, I"d buy it.

jtemple 09-03-2008 11:01 PM

There's a guy on SVRider that has 150,000+ miles on his SV and it's still going strong. If you take care of them, they're solid bikes. I'm in Omaha, I'd gladly go take a look and take lots of pictures, if you wanted to know more about the bike. Let me know.

I'm waiting to hear back from him about pics and damage. But that would be amazing if you are willing to do it. I think it's a pretty good deal considering the market. I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at it cause I've asked twice about damage and he's left that answer out both times. :idk:

But

jtemple 09-04-2008 09:40 AM

PM me his contact info, I'll get in touch with him and go take a look, camera in hand.

Let me know if you have any special pictures you want taken, or questions you'd like asked.

jtemple 09-04-2008 01:59 PM

Got Drewpy's PM. I'm going to call the guy after work and set up a meeting. I'll get some more pictures for you.

:rockwoot: Thank ya.

I have a friend of a friend in the area that's selling a copper '03 SV1000 with Jardine slipons on it. 13,400 miles, $4900. It was well taken care of. If you want more information, I can get it. Here are some pics:

I just got off the phone with the SV650 guy. The funny part is that he lives less than a mile away. I'm going to see the bike tonight. I'll report back!

Ok, pics are taken. If you want the full sized versions, send me a PM with your full name and email address.

I'll post up some shrunk down ones here in a few.

The guy is not the first owner. He bought the bike in May.

He has hardly ridden the bike.

He doesn't want it because he's not comfortable sitting on it (6'5" guy).

It's his first bike.

The ODO reads about 18442 (there's a pic of it coming).

There's a scuff on the tail section.

The can is a Scorpion.

The guy says it's from the previous owner hanging his helmet on the bike.

That is believable. The bike does not look like it has been down on either side.

The previous owner had all maintenance done at the dealer in Lincoln, NE (the same one that sold me the bike with the cracked engine block and told me to pound sand).

Personally, I think his asking price is a bit high.

fatburg 09-04-2008 09:35 PM

I've tooled around on an SV1000 before, it was a nice bike. Comfortable. The power was very controllable in my opinion

Is that chain rusted???

So jtemple in your honest opinion would you buy it and if so what price? I know the price is high so kinda wondering what would be a good price. (i suck at this stuff)

Yeah, the chain looks a little unkempt. It did have some gunk on it, like it may have been lubed in the past. Just judging by the owner's nonchalant attitude and lack of interest in riding, I'd guess he's never done a bit of maintenance on the bike, and he's had it since May.

I'm anal about taking care of my crap. My SV looked brand new when I sold it, and it was pushing 10,000 miles.

I never did have him start the bike; totally forgot to have him do that.

Would I buy it? Probably not. But, like I said, I'm picky about stuff.

If I were to be in the market for that bike, I'd maybe offer him $2500-$2800, if he provided legit maintenace records. There's no way I'd pay $3500 for it.

Speaking of maintenance records, he mentioned that he might be able to get them from the previous owner, who had all work done by that dealer I mentioned.

I have more pics going up of luggage, a new rear tire, etc. It's all included in the deal, he says.

The bike has Shinkos on it, the back one is pretty flat, so he doesn't do twisties. The new rear tire is also a Shinko.

Mr Lefty 09-04-2008 10:02 PM

that's a dirty rusty chain!

I don't think the current owner has really ridden it. He's a new rider, and a big fella. He says the bike is uncomfortable and he doesn't want it any more. He didn't sound too certain about whether or not he was going to get something different. I still have 1/2" or so strips on my bike. The roads out here don't really favor getting rid of them. On a Shinko, that's another story. I'd figure you could get rid of the strips pretty easily on one of those flat bastards.

psychochild28 09-04-2008 10:26 PM

Yea I might keep that bike on hold. But Thank you for taking the time to check it out for me!

Drewp and I are still looking at every forum. We did find on in VA that might be promising. It's an 05 w/ 2,500 miles, stock, with very light damage from falling in a garage. Their asking 4k. They had all the pics of the scratches and such. :idk:

jtemple 09-04-2008 10:27 PM

The SV1000 might be a better buy, but it's going to cost more. I can do the same thing with it, if you want, go take some pics.

jtemple 09-04-2008 10:28 PM

Too bad you weren't shopping when I sold mine. I still think I could have held out for more money. Mine was perfect, and faster than Trip's.

Mine wasn't perfect when I sold it, some douchebag at Wendy's knocked it over while I was inside eating and took off on me. I sold it for what I wanted for it though and I didn't give them all my accessories.

Slick 09-04-2008 11:45 PM

I just sold an 08 naked SV650 for $4800. It had about 2500 miles on it and I'll just say that I BARELY lost money on it. Considering that I enjoyed it and got 60 mpg while driving it.....well........:rockout:

I think you should look around more. I loved the SV and got an AWESOME deal on it new. (being the vice president for a large credit union helps me get good deals with dealers that we do lots of lending for)

Just sayin' :idk:

It's under the grab bar and too far back. the helmet hooks are farther forward than that.

All the luggage and stuff is a bonus (if you plan on doing riding like drewp) but still a bit high.

And I love the copper SV's

You're probably right. It does look like some kind of rub mark though, not a drop.

OneSickPsycho 09-05-2008 01:11 PM

Probably a rub from the luggage. My bike has that shit.

jtemple 09-05-2008 02:49 PM

I can all but guarantee you that the copper SV1000 is in much better shape.

marko138 09-09-2008 03:47 PM

I'd avoid the silver one myself. Keep looking...don't jump right away. Trust OTB...better deals will come along...after all he found an AMAZING deal for me.

Trip 09-09-2008 03:50 PM

$5000 is a little pricey for a 05, you can get a brand new one for not much more.

psychochild28 09-09-2008 04:10 PM

The 5k includes a trailer and straps.

And the silver one is out for sure.

Trip 09-09-2008 04:13 PM

get some pics

psychochild28 09-09-2008 04:15 PM

she's sending pictures tonight and hopefully I can take a look at it thurs when I'm in Atlanta. We'll see I would just like the bike and not the trailer since drewp already has a nice trailer. So if anyone's interested in a trailer i'll get pics for them.

psychochild28 09-09-2008 07:48 PM

Here's the pics of the Bike along with the trailer.

I'm going to see if she'll sell the bike w/o the trailer.

But if anyone is interested I can get more details.

see if you can take the trailer for $100-150 and sell it to me.

Cutty72 09-09-2008 09:51 PM

I'd say $5K is still high even with the trailer. That's like a $500 trailer.

Bike looks clean though, offer them $4K and no trailer, see if they bite.
If you do get it, at least you'll have about 8K of riding before you'll need tires on it, if you can deal with the stockers that long.

Nah thats a harbor freight trailer, they were like $180-$200 on sale for the longest time and recently got bumped up to $400.

jtemple 09-09-2008 10:04 PM

That yellow looks CLEEAAN. But I paid $5030 for my '05, new. Mine was the naked, though.

I paid $5K plus ttl for mine newish. Technically new, but it had 1700 miles on it and some minor cosmetic damage. It had been repoed but never registered with suzuki, so could still be sold as new with full factory warranty.

psychochild28 09-09-2008 11:09 PM

On KBB the bike is worth 4,555. And she's asking 4800 for just the bike. Would 4500 be way to much? It's never been down no scratches and only 3113 miles everything is stock.

jtemple 09-10-2008 08:48 AM

OTB 09-11-2008 06:33 PM

If I checked the bike out and it looked as clean as I think it is, and I could make an OTB kinda deal, I have a cabin out near Morgantown, WV (Deep Creek Lake MD) that I will be at next weekend. I could truck the bike out there and you could save about 4 hrs one way (8 round trip) no problemo.

Just a thought.

Cutty72 09-12-2008 02:18 PM

there is a reason we call OTB "the man"
