HEEEEELLLLP! <forehead slap>
:bash::bash::bash::bash:
My mother is unbeliveable. She wants a bike. She has lots of passenger experience (starting from before I was born) on a bike. So, that's not a problem. She has been considering a sportbike. I tried and tried to steer her toward beginner-friendly bikes. What does she want? A Hayabusa. :bash::bash::bash::bash: Why? I don't know. I had her going toward something easier to ride, like a smaller cruiser, or the Ninja 250. Last night, she emails me, and again, has to have a Hayabusa. Here's what I said to her: Quote:

Sometimes when people have their mind set on something you cant talk sense into them. Good luck with this and hoepfully she will see the light and not get that Busa.
Have her log into this place and we can all tell her it's not a good idea to get a Busa as a first bike. Or have her log onto ANY sportbike forum and have her search though the beginner section or better yet, have OTB talk some sense into her. :twfix: |
Just go over there when she gets it and pull one of the spark plug wires. Problem solved.
|
I also sent her the Ride2Die URL.

Good plan.

Just wondering...how old is your mom ?

My dad was NEVER in to tatoos...I have a few...started when I was in the Marines. What does he do ? Went out and got a tat at 70 years old !!:rofl: It's not that big but I just couldn't believe he actually did it. |
Yeah, I totally respect that, and I think it's cool that she wants to get into it. She's also the type of person that will like a sportbike. I just don't want her getting in over her head.
|
Totally understandable. My wife got her first bike at 41 and got an R6. Many said it was a big mistake but after a year and a half...all is good. :dthumb:
She's also ridden my R1...a TurboBusa and a Ducati 999. It has a lot to do with maturity and having a level head as well. Your mom may ride a Busa but never really push it and be fine...which some will say is a waste but I say...to each their own and it's her choice and money. No I wouldn't suggest it but again...to each their own. |

Shit I started on a ZX7R...I went Down the First Time I got on the Bitch, But I learned my lesson Fixed it and Rode the Piss out of it after that little Mishap.
And they Say you shouldnt start out on 600's :) |
you know anyone with a 250 or a 500? see if they'll allow her to ride it... she'll see the light.
|
Yeah, I have a coworker that has a 250. I think she'd be better off busting up a MSF bike instead, though.

If he still has it by then. He's talking about stepping up next season.

take her for a ride. at night. on a deserted highway.
see where im going with this? afterwards just tell her "now imagine something with a much bigger engine". |
Also, she has 2 things going for her...
age & maturity non-male |

But why should she listen to her son?

but really she should trust HIS opinion above all considering he wouldn't want her to get hurt and would give her a no bullshit pov |
Honestly, I don't think she'd actually go through with it. I'd be surprised if she gets any bike.

JTemple,
How the heck did your mom know about the Hayabusa much less wanting one? Anyway, if she's serious about riding then have her talk with your other riding buddies and have them warn her about hopping on the Busa for a first bike. Make sure she understands that after a few thousand miles under her belt, she can ride whatever she wants, but it's just the beginning portion that she needs to be reasonble with. |

She has been into jetskis for years, and has been through (and currently owns) some pretty fast jetskis. So, she's kind of a speed demon. What she doesn't understand is that any idiot can jump on her Sea Doo and hammer the throttle. A bike is a different kind of animal. Honestly, I think it's all talk. |
Take a MSF with her.

If you remember I did the same with the wife!

I would rock the fuck out of that little Honda...
I had a 74' 100 that wasnt to far off from that. It was a sweet little 2-stroke I restored to like new streetable condition while I lived in Northern MI. I used to get drunk and race my Dobermans around the house doing laps. It has to be some of the most fun memories I have on a bike! |

I'm in 10000% agreement on taking the MSF with her, give her the opportunity to learn the skills necessary, and you to brush up on those same ones.
what you really need to do, is sit down with her in person if you can, and talk with her as the loving son you are, explain that a busa is just WAY too much bike for someone with little to no experience, and that you want her to live MANY MANY years more, because you love her, and aim her toward something more like a GS500F or EX500, hell, even the GSX650 or EX650R are excellent bikes to start on and learn how to ride safely on. just explain it as you love her and dont want to have to see her get hurt or be stuck at her bedside in the hospital if she wrecked, much less get that dreaded call from the police saying she got killed in an accident on that much larger and more powerful bike. The part about caring that she doesnt get hurt is EXTREMELY important. the experience and education on motorcycling is even more important though if she's to get a bike and SAFELY ride it. Hell, if my mom decided to get a bike, I'd be sitting there waiting for her at home with some shiny new gear for her, and a 250 rebel, along with an MSF enrollment class waiting for her. |
Or at least convince her to go with a Ducati Monster or the Classic series if she were to want a "cool" bike.
|
Talk her into a Ducati 1098. But tell her that Inline 4s are better than V4s and that you are willing to trade bikes with her because you love her.
But take your bike to a shop and have them detune the living crap out of it (We are talking H mode). |
for a complete noob, age and maturity dont mean shit.
alotta guys who say they started on a 1000 and was fine-were riding dirtbikes before. for them, age and maturity can be a factor. get her some busa bodywork and put it on a 125 dirtbike, like they did in that great movie "torque" hahahaha |

is there a way to permalock a sdms bike in c mode? |
She's actually talking about getting a Monster now.

First I would say is contrary to popular belief a Busa is easy enough to ride, Its long throw throttle (1/4 vs 1/5 turn) combined with a torqy engine make it very well mannered at low revs. (think 750 twin)The down sides for most new riders is weight. They are heavy at the stop. If she gets the Busa there are countless comfort and appereance mods available. (never mind all the performance stuff)
If she goes Monster she will be thrilled this is a far more practical machine just a bit more expensive to maintain. Either way I like your mom's tastes and if I were married I would at least like to buy her a coffee |

If you really love your mom you'll find a huge gigantic open parking lot and tell her to ride your ZX10 around. Maybe it will scare her to something smaller or she'll wreck it and not want a bike period. Or it could work in reverse. It will suck about your bike but atleast you can keep your mom alive. |
She said she sat on a Monster and liked it. What she sat on was another Hayabusa with a Monster Energy sticker on it.
I have her talked down to a smaller bike. I'm going to check out a 2003 Buell Blast for her in about an hour. The guy wants $2500. 7500 miles, new tires, stock and lowered seat included. I think $2500 is a tad high. |
She said she sat on a Monster and liked it. oh realllly
:bump::jump: :panic:lol :sorry: it was hard not too |

She found another Blast, 1 year older, but lower mileage and looks better kept. Same asking price.
I just sent her about 10 links to Ninja 250s for sale. |
be careful with the blasts, 03+ models are better, the earlier ones had a lot of issues with all kinds of things. mechanically I cant stand those pieces of shit. the ninja 250 is a WAY better alternative, and more capable.
the blast has this SHITTY automatic choke that kicks on anytime you crank it, which is rediculous, especially in florida heat where choke makes it harder to start. |
Buell Blast, Ninjette, whatever that is decently priced. All she needs is a bike that will do yeoma service for a year at most and then she'll be upgrading, so just get one that's reasonably priced and mechanically fine.

cm or rebel 450 and put flat bars on it. all day comfy, excellent cornering and semi decent beginner power level
|
I don't get her. She drove 2200 miles to pay $1200 for one of these:
http://www.hondatrail90.hondagl.com/...da-ct90-k4.jpg At least it won't kill her. Well, until she can get it running. |
well... at least it's not the busa. but I don't know how you go from want'n a busa to that...
|
Easy. You're crazy and you don't know what you want.
|
She will get tired of that lil Honda fast if she rides at all. The worries my resume.
|
Yeah, we'll see. What I don't understand is why she bought that thing. For the money, she could have had a good used Ninja 250.

You think that thing has collector's value? It's a 1974 Honda CT90. It's basically a dual purpose moped.
It runs, but I think the splines on her shift lever are stripped out. I haven't looked at it in person yet. |
Is that even considered a real motorcycle?
|
It's street legal and you have to have your endorsement to ride it. So, I guess! The top speed is about 50 mph.
|
Scooters are fun.
I have just as fun on my scooter as on any of my other bikes. |
get her a Buell Blast....
that's pretty close to a Hayabusa...she'll never know the difference |
