Dropped Bike, I'm an Idiot
I just dropped my bike. It's the first time I've put one down before. I was parking it in my garage and tried to get off of it without putting the kickstand down. STUPID STUPID STUPID! I'm totally anal about checking that the bike is solidly on the kickstand before I get off of it. I guess I was just distracted.
I have a scratched mirror, a scratch on the belly pan and a scratched Champ's slider. I'm not as pissed as I thought I'd be, probably because the damage was very minor. |
yep thats a dumb one
Is your bike black? Shouldn't be too hard to touch-up.
The belly pan is flat black, as is the mirror. I probably won't bother with the touchup. If I do anything, I'll just replace the parts.

Wow... that's a dumb one... naw really... it was bound to happen at some point in your riding life... a VAST majority of us have dropped our bikes... another large majority have wrecked while moving... and then there's me... who loops a 600 at a light. |

I dropped my bike in the garage once. All of the fiarings were off so the only thing that hit was my slider. I was on the kickstand side of the bike trying to hold it and put my rear stand on it by myself. I was holding it upright and it leaned a little further away from me and i just didn't have the muscle to stop the momentum. Laid it down kinda softly so no damage, other than i think the slider has an incredibly slight angle up now.
My husband dropped mine in our parking lot. :tt:
hell i got home from work late tonight and didnt see the foot and a half wide strip of wet leaves at the base of my driveway. slid like 3 feet. almost busted my ass turning in lol
I love how everyone's embarrassing bike dropping stories are coming out.
Hey, I low sided on Tuesday. Shit happens.
I priced out the parts. New left-side belly pan, new left mirror, new slider puck. Total cost, about $200 to replace everything. The shifter lever also has a scratch on it that you can't really see unless you're lying on the ground.
Don't feel bad man. Most everyone has dropped the bike at one time or the other. Forgetting to put the kickstand down is a big one. I dropped my last bike at the gas station. I filled up, got on the bike, put my foot down in a puddle of oil or antifreeze and my foot just shot out and the bike went down.
Hell, I dropped my KTM because I kicked the side stand down but it popped up and I didn't realize it. I dropped my BMW because my foot slipped on a rock. It happens and if nothing other than minor scratches resulted, then I'm happy.
i almost dropped the pig at the gas station on the TN of the gap because i put my foot on a oil slick and it slid out, it was a leg press to pick that fucker up before it went over on top of me
I have dropped my race bike twice loading it after the races...All day of risking the odds and pushing the envelope and then to slip off the ramp and endo:idk:I am a dumbass!
I few scratches?! I wouldnt even waste the money on new parts unless you actually do REAL damage. It happens to the best of us. Just pick her up and wait till you REALLY go down! Scratches (usually) are just character and lessons learned!
Marko, the bike ok? |
I wouldn't even think of replacing shit on a simple slip and fall.
Don't feel bad. At least now you understand just how heavy your bike gets when not on center. After a Highside last sunday on the freaking way to the track I am now on the stupid crash list myself. Almost 2.5 years of custom paint and perfection I'm tempted to dump tons of money and bring it back from the Depths of two facedum, but I think another crash is on the horizon given my new found love for the track. Second time on the same side only more broken parts. Scratches are Gangsta. :idk: |
hah. just be glad you didnt drop it at 40 into a guard rail.

Yeah we all have been there... Dropped the 9R once in my apt parking lot cause my foot slipped on a wet paint stripe.... no real damage.
Dropped the chop once... scratched and bent the pipe tip... had my pipe guy bend back out and repolish the stainless... cost $50.. |

I have a line on a used belly pan. I'm thinking I'll offer him $30 or so. If I can get off that cheaply, I'll replace the pan. The mirror scratch is barely visible.
Haven't actually dropped mine since I got it back to mint condition from the previous owner's wreck. My ex-room mate did go ahead and drop it for me though when riding it around our neighbor hood.
I have on more then one occasion, pulled up somewhere and started getting off the bike without the kickstand. Fortunately I have managed to catch it each time but there have been some CLOSE calls. |
Haven't ever never ever drooped one of my bikes!

Does knocking a bike off the centerstand count? Putting a bike on the centerstand takes up less floor space then when it's on the sidestand. But it's a lot easier to tip over. My wife has knocked over the GS with her car once, and I've done it four times. Plus, ran over the right foot peg once. This is the sixth set of handlebars that I've installed on it, but that's in 29 years. My God, I've had that Suzuki for half my life.
i slipped in a slippery floor parking garage last week and sorta dropped the gsxr-its was at supermax lean, frame slider was like a inch off the ground lol
had to let out a "beowulf" war cry to get it up without lettin it fully hit the ground dropped the kawi 2-3 times, never messed anything up. one accident and it was totaled :idk: guess i ran up my tab and it was time to pay |
I was so pissed when I dropped mine that I picked it back up like it was made out of balsa wood.
