What's the strangest thing you've hit/run over?

I flattened a ring necked pheasant the other day and have destroyed various woodland creatures that have had the misfortune to wander in front of my bike in my travels.

What's the strangest thing you've ever hit or run over in your travels?

The law.

Physically it would have to be a dead deers leg on the highway on my old bike going 70 mph. I got about 2 feet of air and almost went down.
The sad thing? I was tempted to turn around and ride over it again going faster.

dReWpY 11-10-2008 12:31 PM

a turkey vulture at 70 mph to the chest

A dump truck. :panic:

A flock of seagulls. They destroyed my face shiled and I was pulling feathers from my helmet and leathers for a week after. I probably plowed through a few dozen of them before I made it through the flock.

The worst part was that we were stopped on the side of the road that was covered in white birds in front of us, stupid me says to my riding buddy "I wouldn't worry, they are pretty good at moving before you hit them". Then I got on the throttle way too hard.

Hilarious. Turtle in the apex of a corner with my front tire.

TommyHotWheel 11-10-2008 05:17 PM

Riding a country road in Michigan at dusk, I came up to what I thought was a bit of fog... Turned out to be a huge swarm of bugs. I just tucked a bit and headed in...about 30 yards in I felt something hit my shoulder, them my face and everything went dark. I slowley pulled off the road and removed my helmet. Just like a cartoon, I had a bat,wings extended splattered across my fullface helmet.

Mrs. Colleen 11-10-2008 05:19 PM

So far...just a giant bug to the throat. It hurt. :(

Ninjakel 11-10-2008 06:15 PM

Leon has run over an alligator.

I have hit a buzzard,straight into my chest, shoulder area. I was wearing a JR mesh jacket. Blood and guts and feathers everywhere, and I had the biggest bruise ever.

ummmm..... Let's see, on a bike,I've hit three deer,a cat,a muffler,part of a plastic lawn chair,a huge plastic sign,a dead pine tree(must have fell off a truck),a traffic barrel,a farm implement/combine(barely,broken fender no biggie),a bird in the chest,a Coors bottle thrown from a pick up truck (remember that,guys?),a garbage bag,hmmm that's probably all of the weird ones I can remember.

Gas Man 11-10-2008 11:07 PM

Me and you Tigger....

not wierd but a deer here as well.

OreoGaborio 11-10-2008 11:42 PM

One of these.

http://www.controlelectronic.com/CES...rrier_Gate.JPG

I was exiting the parking garage in the building I work at behind a car and the magnetic sensors didn't pick me up on my Tuono. The barrier started raising and the gate arm began to lower.... Luckilly it was a solid ramp that raised up (not a bar, like shown above) and I was traveling in the opposite direction than the arrow in the picture... I had to fuckin gas it & jumped the damn thing.

Definitely got my attention!

I don't know if it's strange but I killed about 15,000 butterflies last Spring at the Gap. Ok maybe it wasn't QUITE that many but it was a lot!! :lol They were quite distracting to drive through...

G-Rex 11-11-2008 08:33 AM

More birds than I can count. Birds are easy. They just deflect off.

My *strangest* hit was that I clipped a moose with my hardbag about 20 miles west of Jackson, Wyoming.

I didn't go down. A foot more to the left and I would have. He was standing on the yellow stripe in the middle of the road and it was dusk out in the mountains. VERY hard to see.

Ooo... I somehow ripped out one of my sprinkler thingys in my yard a few months ago... I think it got caught on the lower fairing somehow... Had a nice fountain out there for a couple days until the HOA fixed it...

t-homo 11-11-2008 12:46 PM

I was hoping for a more detailed story about the decoys. You let me down OSP.

Nothing too unusual, just a 'possum at 50 MPH (stupidest fucking animals on the planet).

It was posted on the old site back when it happened... On the way back from Canada the weekend before moving to FL... Drewpy has the grand idea that we will go smoke Cuban cigars...

HRCNICK11 11-14-2008 05:27 PM

Knee puck to the helmet front straight at grattan.
Knee puck to the leg on the street.
Lots of birds including one to the chest that fell in my lap and was tossed to another rider. I also ducked one that hit back seater in the face shield.
Pack of cigs from friend in front of me.
June bug I thought some one tossed a chocolate ice cream cone out of a car.
Rabbit.
Mouse.
Phesant.
Dead coon.
A deer tail still connected to the deer at about 90mph. Thank God I did not hit the whole thing.
Tire in the road on the freeway at 70mph middle of the night.
Almost hit a V-8 engine that fell out of the truck in front of me.
Turtles and frogs are always on Grattan I have hit many of them. (frogs are slippery)
While passing a bus on the freeway it hit a deer and I got covered in yuck.(blood is sticky)
Police horse crap in east lansing(after a MSU foot ball game)
Railroad track with steel grate missing bent rim all to crap.
I also ran into the back of a friends Katana we started to leave a stop sign and then he stoped after rolling about 10 feet. Poked a hole in the F2 radiator with his pipe.
A whole mess of mayflys, they taste real bad.

Ok thats all I can remember in 15 years of riding.

In 15 years of riding a lot of crap happens. I have about 100,000 miles in on sport bikes.

marko138 11-15-2008 02:00 PM

Oddly enough, I've never run anything unusual over in 6 or 7 years of riding.

I've taken out a few squirrels. No loss, IMO. Rats with furry tails.

was92v 11-16-2008 07:49 PM

I once ran over a cat, but didn't hit it. While cranked over in a right turn a cat ran under the bike. I saw the movement and looked down and I saw the cat run under the bike. I braced for the crash when the rear wheel went over the cat. Nothing.. sombitch made it between the front and rear wheels. Scared the shit out of me, probably him too. I figure we both used up one of our lives that afternoon.

Damn... that's insane.

'73 H1 Triple 11-16-2008 08:39 PM

That sounds like the squirrel I almost got the other week. I was coming home from work on a nice twisty road when a squirrel ran out. I wasn't trying to hit it but wasn't going to crash avoiding it.

It ran from the right side of the road and I left my left boot toe hit it's tail. It continued on it's way to the other side of the road. :lol:

~~~~~~~~
I've hit numerous birds ( I really like my armored gear ) and some really nasty bugs. I remember one time I had just flipped down my visor when I hit a bigass bug that splattered all over my visor.
When I was young, dumb and "squidly", I was riding in a loose fitting tank top. I was doing about 70 mph when I rear ended a wasp in my left nipple. To say that hurt would be a gross understatement.
I locked up both tires and ripped what was left of the backend of the wasp out. I had a hollow spot there for a month.
