What kind of tires you running?

i currently have pirelli corsa diablo III's on mine, i LOVE them and will probably continue using them, I just ride street, but its always in the twisties and fairly aggressive , they turn in a bit slow, but when leaned over they really stick, mileage wasnt that great, but nothing else has been either on the 1000

marko138 11-17-2008 01:26 PM

Corsa III. I like them.

Rider 11-17-2008 01:27 PM

Bridgestone Battlax BT016's. Very nice tires. They don't warm up as quick as PP's but once warm they perform well.

neebelung 11-17-2008 01:29 PM

Metzler M3's.

Trip 11-17-2008 01:29 PM

I use to run PPs, they were okay. Had good wear life and okay grip. Performed well in all weather.

I run Corsa IIIs right now on the street, I like em. They wear too fast in the middle if you do any straight road riding. Trip to Indy for GP killed the middle of them. I love them in the dry for twisty riding. They suck in the rain because of the long heat up.

I ran PP 2CTs for the first time at nashville SS this year. I did not like them. The tire transition was rough and they didn't have a lot of the qualities I liked in the PP to justify using them. Once I wear them down enough to not use at track days, I will try em on the street.

ceo012384 11-17-2008 01:39 PM

It all depends how hard you ride...

If you're a really aggressive canyon carver / kneedragger then any of the dual-compound street tires are a good compromise between mileage and performance (DCIII, 2CT, BT016, etc.). I personally like the DCIII's better than the michelins. I'll admit I've never ridden the bridgestones.

If you ride any less aggressively then that, don't waste your money... get sport touring / harder compound stuff.

Some people like the peace of mind of having a stickier tire... but I am of the opinion that it's a waste of cash... 0.001% of people on the street are approaching their tire's abilities... It's all the rider.

You mentioned you liked them, but never actually said thats what you were using.

Right now I have some shitty bridgestones on there, but I dont remember the model. They are kind of old and not very sticy at all. Theyre being replaced as soon as the weather breaks in the spring with pilot road 2s.

Pilot Powers for street and track.

I picked up a new set of wheels a couple weeks ago, so I'll start using race rubber at the track. I'm going to run my first couple days on Pilot Powers though so I can compare more easily, rather than trying to remember what the Pilot Powers felt like last season. Hoping for a considerable gain in traction in the high speed/heavy acceleration turns.

Try some pirelli diablo supercorsas

That's what I have.

Compound combos depend on your track and temps/conditions, ask the vendor. At my track in normal conditions most guys run a blue front and green rear.

Thanks, I'll have to try those - I run most my days with NESBA and I think they give fair prices on them.

Is that like a hard front and medium rear?

blue = supersoft
green = soft
yellow = medium

forget what the hard is.

RACER X 11-17-2008 04:28 PM

mich Pilot ROADs

Mr Lefty 11-17-2008 04:39 PM

I HAD Diablo Strada's... LOVED them. rode in all sorts of weather (minus snow) and never had a slip. rode from Fargo to FL and back up to Indy with about 70% being super slab... and they were only just SLIGHTLY flat spotted.

DLIT 11-17-2008 05:34 PM

Regular Pilot Powers for the street and Michelin slicks for the track. Use to use Pilot Races on the track and got a chance to ride slicks for mad cheap so I tried 'em. I felt locked in all day with the front, but the rear wasn't the greatest. I'm sure tuning my suspension would've helped with it though. I'm gonna try the Dunlop GP11s next time I need track tires, but I'm sticking with the Powers for street stuff.

Current is Powers on the buell.

Had Corsa III's on it and loved every aspect except the 3K out of the rear tire :panic:

Next I think will be the Conti Attack Road or Sport, not sure yet.

I love them. Only other tires I've had are some dunlops that fit on the buell, and some shinkos that were on my R1 when I got it. These things have amazing turn in. I'm not a great rider by any means, so my thoughts on them don't really matter honestly. From what "hard" riding I have done, they are great.

How did you like that 200 you had on your bike?

was92v 11-17-2008 09:15 PM

Bridgestone BT-021. Plenty of grip and seem to hold up well on a 600. I would spend my money on another set when these wear out.

FT BSTRD 11-17-2008 09:32 PM

My two favorite tires are the Avon Storm ST's and the Michelin Pilot Road 2's.

Of the two, the PR2's are the best. I really liked the stick and the wear on both. The profile of the two of them is very similar. The PR2's had better wet traction, but only slightly.

HATED the Pilot Roads, and the BT020s were horrible for cupping the front

Sanchez 11-17-2008 09:48 PM

Continental Road Attacks on my street bike and Dunlop 209's on my track bike. When the Conti's wear out, I'm going to try some of those new fangled Pilot Road 2's.

The BT-021 is a completely different tire from the 020. I ran a set of 014's as a control reference prior to putting on the 021's. I like the the 021 better than the 014. Equal or better grip, better front stability on the side and a bit better mileage. The rear is holding its profile well, but the front is starting to show some wear on the outer tread from side load. I probably wouldn't run them as a track tire, but they are working really well on the street.

You know,I never finished that evaluation did I?:sorry: Well, briefly,it caused me some set-up headaches for a minute but I "felt" a lot more stable in the turns with the 200 and it "felt" like I was experiencing less tire slip (I don't hit it hard enough to spin on corner exit anymore) when powering out of a corner. I actually, really liked the tire but I went back to 190 because of price and availability. Plus I got two sets of Diablos for $150 a set.

The bikes are street only for now so I'm running Pirelli Corsa III's on the Superduke R and I love them. Mileage is crap, but the traction and feedback is fantastic.

The Thunderbird is sporting some Metzeler M1's. I'll be switching to something a bit longer wearing on that one soon....no need for a really sticky tire on that one.

The wife's Bonneville is still running the stock Metzeler Lazertec front and MEZ2 rear and they seem to be a good choice for that bike.

She's running the Continental Road Attacks on her Ducati. I was pleasantly surprised by this tire's performance. We just need to see how long they'll last.

i've got a 200 on the rear of mine right now, only because i had it laying around and could use it for a couple weeks till winter until i ordered a new set, it feels pretty stable, but turns in slow as shit, i will be sticking with a 190

I just put a set of Pilot Road 2's on my R1 last week. I've only been able to get about 55 miles on them since I got them, but so far they seem great.

The night I got them put on, I ended up riding home in the rain for about 20 miles. The bike felt stable and never gave me any issues at all on the wet roads.

BT020's

Got 16,000 out of my first set and 14,500 out of the second.

Yea that's part of my set-up problems...once I dropped the front a couple mm's and a few other things,I was very happy with the bike in general. Also,I think it also depends on what tires you are running. The Pirelli's tend to be a "quick turn in" tire,so slowing turn in down a bit isn't necessarily a bad idea. Plus,I'm OLD and tend to stick to sweepers and flowing country roads rather than roads like the Dragon these days,so it suited me fine. If you are running a Pirelli or Michelin and are more interested in 100+mph sweepers rather than tight 25 mph twisties,it's a good set-up. IMHO,of course...

No Worries 11-18-2008 05:57 PM

Avon Azaro's on the CBR and they work great. But I'm getting Avon's Storm ST's next time.

I've been using Metzeler's Laser, bias/ply, tube-type tires on my old GS1000 for many years. On a GS website, people are using Kenda tires or Cheng Shin tires. The main reason? Only $100/pair.

I couldn't believe it. I'd rather get premium tires and run them till they're bald than buy cheap tires. You look at any older bike around here and it has Metzeler's Laser front tire on it. I don't know, maybe because we have curves.

NONE_too_SOFT 11-18-2008 09:51 PM

JARVIS518 11-18-2008 09:54 PM

where online?

i found tire express is selling 2ct's for $300 with free shipping and just wondering if i could find them cheaper

Well,I usually buy local as I get a set of Pirellis for about $225 but then I ran into a deal for two sets of Diablos for $300 on another forum I belong to... and now I got Bridgestone BT-016s for $200 online. So I guess I just go where the best deal is and don't stick to one or the other.

At the dealership back home I could get tires with on the bike mounting and balancing for about $260 otd. Here, Ron Ayers will sell me the tires cheap but charge $100 to mount and balance. I could mount them myself but I don't have a balancer...:idk:

I've got Dunlop Roadsmarts on right now, and I like them. They stick well enough for me, and the harder center compound has been great for commuting. I may try the Pilot Road 2 at some point, but the Dunlops were cheaper this time around.

BT003 Race Front Soft....BT003 Race Medium rear

Street only this year, but I only run canyons. The tires are super super awesome turn in is awesome and grip is beyond grippy.

I've run these on the track as well. I LOVE these tires.

Also, the tires lasted 8 months...front and rear actually lasted the same.

I"m running a Duro HF918 rear right now on my Hurricane. going to get a matching front soon too. I think its a good street tire, bias ply construction but hey, it fits nicely and feels really stable.

I buy my tires directly from a shop here that I absolutely love. anyone who knows pureacceleration will know what I'm talking about. I love spending time down there, even if I dont buy nothin, the shop still rocks just to hang out at.

Dnyce 11-19-2008 11:44 PM

just curious-i need some new tires...i commute, but its a 5min commute. seriously. im not a agressive knee dragger, but im riding the twisties and learning, a trackday is in the future.. i have a totally different bike to drag race, so this one will never see the strip, and im rarely on the freeway for more than 80miles at a time. '00 gsxr 750.

was lookin at Bridgestone BT002's just because i saw a deal on them. other than that, havent really looked.

I'd be more than happen to... What is this shop's name? I could certainly make a voyage out that way...

2CT's are where I'm leaning, but I might just say fuck it and rock some Road 2's... I don't see myself pushing this bike in any of the non-existent corners anytime soon.

On the Dozer i have about 4,000 miles on them now...look like i can run another 4,000 easily...depending on how bad i abuse them of course... Surprising good grip to... Better than the Dunlops she came with... jumping curbs and streaking cross school yards and dirt fields seems easier also. :rockwoot:

I don't know...They were listed as a tire for my bike on Dunlop's website and I'm always up for trying new things...boy I'll tell you what, those tires will have your knee on the ground in no time flat! I guess they are basically Dunlop's rain race tires with a medium compound. They were the absolute shit in the wet!. Like I said tho',I ended up chucking them because they tended to "fall" into corners and I like a more neutral tire. No offense, but the TLRs I've ridden could probably use some quickening up of their steering. So a faster turn in tire might be the way to go.:idk:

I have the Conti Attack SM's on the DRZ, they are great, but I have also been considering picking up an extra set of rims and slapping some Distanzio's on them, I definitely want to give them a try. Heard nothing but great things about them. The Conti's do pretty well off roading, until you hit the fluffier/sandy stuff!
