Pretty cool, just watched a couple of the videos. I'll have to remember to watch the LVMS one again before going there later this year. Good stuff fellas!

Zortness, that was a pretty long session at smmr, was it with socaltrackdays? And was it 110 degrees that day? If it was, that's hardcore!

SWEET ride at the end, sounds like the person is barely on the gas and it still sounds MEAN.

Here's a vid from my last TD (my third one). Skip to about 140 for the better lap. An instructor is following me... he doesn't catch me until about 20 seconds in, right in the braking zone for turn 3 (sharp right hander). The vid is two separate laps, but both are only for about 3/4 of the track unfortunately. The second lap is later in the day and much better... regardless, I'm slow.

Here is turn 6/7/8 from my first TD:

On that shot of you going down, it looks like there's a big bump where the two slabs of tarmac meet. Looks huge. Is it as big and disturbing as it looks?

Yes, it was so-cal. No, it was in December, so it was more like 70 degrees, lol. We're all practicing for the endurance series this year. Most of those vids are raw, I was cutting them into interesting sections for a while, but it takes forever. I have probably 30 minidv tapes nearly full with onboard and riding footage.

Fuck the bump, all I can see is the damned tire wall. No thanks.

Weird, If I right click and copy the address of each pic into a new window, I could see em. But in the thread I only see the X.

In short, yes, it is.

The problem with NHIS is that there is the NASCAR ring, which is well maintained and banked. (they realized nascar would bring in money so they dropped the nascar oval on top of the road course. Since then, the oval has been far better maintained than the road course). Therefore, there are transitions between the road course and the oval all over the place. You're not only going between different types of pavement, but also going from banked to not-necessarily-banked regions.

The ones in turn three (the one in the picture... there is one slightly to the left out of view, probably helped me crash..) are by far the worst. The ones in turn 10 (directly north of 3 on the other side of the wall) are a close second. The rest aren't too terrible... sortof....

Here is a map of the track and I've circled all the course/oval transitions.

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...12384/nhis.jpg

I bet when I go to a smooth and high-speed track it will be insanely different, and awesome.

Yeah, that too. My bike hit it, but I didn't. In general you aren't coming into T3 hot enough for your body to get there, and if you do, you won't be going very fast.

I would kill to ride the 'ring. That dude is flying, considering he's got other bikes AND cars to worry about! :panic:

marko138 03-11-2008 04:01 PM

Sounds like Pocono. The road course is shit. The Oval is supreme...and banked...and very very rough getting on and off of it.

Closest I have been was kicking up cones at a woman's only autocross school...

Here's one from my first track day...I was still fighting the natural urge to stay ON the bike. :panic:
I've been hooked ever since! :rockwoot:

Edit: Good Stuff CEO, just watched the vids. Looks like you rode some twisties before hitting up the track, huh? It shows.
Look at my pic below, I was scared shitless on my first tday. And I'm sure it showed. HAHA

It was SO much fun! And yeah, that car can move!:yes:
My instructor had a C5 Z06 so she knew how Corvette work in those sorts of courses. She taught me that if you mash the peddle before the car is completely straight while coming out of a corner it WILL loose the back end...finding out for sure was the fun part! I did not completely spin out but I was squirling around a bit. :rockwoot:

Yeah, I bet, those things have some power!! Thats why I stick with my little 4 cilinger honda!! I'd be mashing that way to often just to get squirling!!

Quite possibly my best riding friend, and definitely the man responsible for making me a track-slut Jimmy, and me. (Look VERY closely at the front of Jimmy's Bike)

Last one, I have to upload this one for some reason, I don't think I have it hosted anywhere. It's the best track shot of me by far, T5 at Barber. (Check the clearance on the case cover/shifter)

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it

Yeah, the long video is from my third track day, which was about 4 months after I started riding. The first TD was three months after I started. By the first TD, I had had about 2500-3000 miles of street riding, and a decent chunk of it was twisties and practicing technique.

Your first TD pic is still pretty sweet though! You're not off the bike very much, but you've got a respectable lean angle going on.

That motard pic is sweet.... looks like it must be a pretty small dirt bike based on your knee being down so easily... it is a 125? A lot of guys ride the 450's and such... they are much higher and only the really quick guys get a knee down.

That last pic is nasty. :dthumb:

BTW noticed some of your pics were facebook links... hit me up on there.

Are you smoking crack? 450's are not much bigger than a 250. (A 250 is the 4 stroke equivalent to the 2 stroke 125)

I didn't say a 450 was higher than a 250... I was just asking what type he was riding because it was so small... and asking if maybe it was a 125... I don't know a ton about dirtbikes :idk:

Point was, most of the motards I've seen (many of which were 450's and such) are a lot higher than the one in that pic.

Since SM's use 17 inch wheels ans lower profile tires, they sit an inch or two lower than a standard dirt bike.

That makes sense. So why are all the guys I see at TD's riding SM's have a much higher seat and peg, and only the really quick guys get a knee down?

His pic just looked a lot diff to me, that's all.

They might be increasing their race sag. It's just a matter of adjusting the rear spring. They might want a higher setting to get the pegs higher.

Hmm, I guess that could do it.

Speaking of SM's, I found a SIC picture... I was meaning to start a thread about it

It's a suzuki, DRZ-400SM, it's a four hundred, and it's actually BIGGER than the 450's, and heavier. I just have a few screws loose in my head, so I do stuff like that.

Check this pic out, same motard, I noticed that my high-side foot was really light on the peg, and I wanted to see if I could drag knee with one foot off the peg. So I did. (And I didn't crash)
