I think that there is something missing in this picture
Fraking gremlins keep taking shit off my bike when I'm not looking. I guess it might be a good time to put that new tire on.

you must live in a ghetto. wait, nevermind, no cinderblocks.

Like the jackstand. Never even thought of that. :D I am actually borrowing my cousin's PIT BULL stand, which I plan to make my own from. I was actually thinking about making a couple of stands when I make mine to resale. :idk: I found some online for like $50 but they looked cheesey to me compared to the PIT BULL style. Either way, nice way to get things done man! ;)
BTW, how well does that heater work halfway up the wall?! :D |
Yeh i just tilt the bike up so that the back tire is a few inches off the ground, pull the jack stand under the swing arm, then in one motion push the bike up so that the weight is on the jack and slide a piece of 2x4 under the kick stand and the rear wheel is 2" off the ground. I use the engine hoist if I need to get the bike any higher, and just lift the bike from the subframe and the upper tripletree with some straps, then tie either end of the bike to teh hoist and let it down so that a little wight is on a jack stand, and the bike is solidly planted to work on.
I also have a bicycle inner tube over the top of the jackstand, then wrapped in duct tape a bazzillion times to prevent it from digging into the frame. And the heater blows almost straight down. When I first got it I had it on the floor thinking that heat rises, and all it did was to char the floor around it so I have it suspended from the ceiling. It heats the shed in a few minutes so that I am comfortable wearing a T-shirt in the middle of winter. |

I heard of one of the HF ones breaking at the weld so I just stay away from it

this is what I built. I ended up with about $30 in it, I had the steel already and the guy didn't charge me to weld it up. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h8...cestand006.jpg |
I have a welder, I'm just lazy about making one.

My Vortex rear stand would be fine if the damn handle wasn't so short. :(
I have to have help getting the bike on and off the rear stand. That sucks! |
Haven't seen the one from HF but I know that I can build a stand and have around $20 in it tops. I have the welder, chop saw, notcher and wheels (I think). I just have to get the tube and bend it up. I honestly think that I could make a nice stand for cheap.
You see, I come from a world of Suzuki Samurai's where there wasn't much aftermarket support for years and we had to build all of our own stuff. I have made bumpers, sliders, axle guards, and pretty much anything else you could think of over the years with good success. It also doesn't help much that I am cheap. :D :D |
I guess this is the stand that you are talking about?
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=99701 Here are some 8mm spools and 10mm spools. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=66925 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=66926 What is the 8 and 10mm reference? Bolt size? I may look into getting those for my arm. I figure all I can do is to drill and tap the rear arm and maybe use some blue locktite. ??? |

I assume the 10mm would be better for a heavier bike, like.........mine? I have no problem lifting my bike by an 8mm bolt at all but at the same time, you have to keep in mind that I am going to have to drill and tap the swingarm to be able to use these. :idk: I thought about have a machine shop near where I work to weld a small bung under the arm to allow me to bolt the spools on but I simply don't want anyone welding my shit besides me and I am not setup to do aluminum.
