Big Riding Day for Uma

The wife, Uma, who only rides if its 75 and sunny cause she won't ride in the rain PERIOD or if its colder than anything under that temp. Further, she never feels comfortable enough to ride by herself. So with those restrictions coupled with my work sked, she usually does shit for riding miles. :td:

Well she has had it with that and had it with no riding. So all week we have been talking about her riding to work Friday(today). Its a jean day and the weather is suppose to be good. Plus how much better can a TGIF be, than riding to work for the first time.

So I made sure the bike had gas (another one of her "ism's"), got her set up with a Buell backpack for her work stuff. :tremble:She was all nervous, giddy, and laughin last night about it. But..

She did it! Rode her 20 mile jaunt into work this morning. Its a small step to most but I'm so proud. I'm sure it will lead to much more riding which will lead to more comfort with riding by her. Its just all GREAT!!

:rockwoot:

I'm working up to this day for my wife as well. She's never ridden anywhere alone outside of our neighborhood

shmike 06-26-2009 10:08 AM

I can't believe you let your wife ride in jeans!

Apparently you don't love her. :wtfru:

Seriously, kudos to her for taking a big step in her riding independence. :dthumb:

Good luck talking her into that.

A little... but I know she's good enough to ride by herself. She's her biggest doubter and critic.

That's usually all we ride in bud... Oh and a half dot helmet too. :skep:

But I told her on dress days (her normal days) she could put on her chaps if she wants.

the chi 06-26-2009 10:43 AM

Ya'll need to meet me in the middle, I'll take her riding!

Good for her, tell her I said congrats on her achievement!!

Gas Man 06-26-2009 10:49 AM

I'll show her the thread later... she'll be embarrassed

Phenix_Rider 06-26-2009 12:29 PM

Congrats!

20 miles? She has a long way to go before she even rides to the NE rally.

I think this is 20 miles ALONE... pretty sure she's gone further with Gas riding along next to her...

good shit Uma... careful gas... or she'll be disappearing for weekends at a time... coming back with gas receipts from Canada, Colorado, Washington...

HokieDNA01 06-26-2009 12:45 PM

Tell her congrats. What does she ride?

schweet

CrazyKell 06-26-2009 04:05 PM

Congrats to her! Hope it leads to many more miles.

I totally don't get why some women won't ride alone though. I've probably put more miles under my belt riding alone than I've ever ridden with other people.

(who's going to touch that one? :lmao:)

Yeah she's put on plenty more than that... this is just her first 20 miles solo.

And I highly doubt I need to worry about her runnin off... at least not yet.

I will cause that shit don't scare me! :skep:

I think it has something to do with lack of testerone stupidity. I think most guys fueled by the T.S. have the confidence needed to just jump in both feet first. Women don't have that and are a bit more timid.

Ducati Diva 06-26-2009 07:13 PM

Good for her!!!
I haven't got the courage yet to take off by myself. I still have to have Jeeps beside/behind me.

Trip 06-26-2009 07:24 PM

Awesome

bring her to the gap with ya,

can't beat that huge smile on her face pulling in. Looks like she had a blast.

Still working on getting a GS before you get here, but it's not looking good. Every one I find that I like, someone is either coming look at it tomorrow and I have to wait and see if they buy it or they won't contact me back.

'73 H1 Triple 06-26-2009 09:14 PM

By the looks of that big smile, it seems this will be happening more often

Congrats Uma :dthumb:

I don't get it either. I'm like you, have ridden more miles alone than even with the hubby. I generally don't do group rides, too many people/styles to deal with.

I like to wander by myself. I get lost, find new roads and talk to people that I normally wouldn't. :D
