I'm doing it!

Well! After mucho bugging by my friends, and hanging around enough, I've decided to do a track day!

I can't fit it in my schedule until Labour Day weekend but I'm already excited about it.

Can't wait to try it out!

marko138 07-08-2009 02:44 PM

Have fun.

Ninjakel 07-08-2009 02:46 PM

oh, you are gonna LOVE it!!!

There is sooo much more that can be safely learned on the track. Not to mention just the fun of going fast without ticket worries

CrazyKell 07-08-2009 02:48 PM

I'm very nervous because I'm not exactly forgiving of myself. I'm my own worst critic and am very harsh about the mistakes I make.

Luckily I've got some great friends who are going to show me the ropes and show me some lines.

Can't wait! :rockout:

Frame sliders..... eeewwwwwwww

Kel - the one thing to remember ALL day.... breathe. The rest of it, just listen to your instructors and go round and round and round and round. Just relax and breathe. :)

You'll have a blast.

Mine don't actually look too bad on the bike. The black kind of blends in. I don't even notice them.

As much as I cut myself up, I'm actually very good at just riding my own ride and not even thinking about anyone else around me. It's their job to get safely past me. At least that's the way I see it.

Besides, my friends tell me there's no way in hell I could be any slower than these 2 guys that were there last weekend. :lmao:

Yeah frame sliders only because I assume she will leave her street plastics on. Race plastic? Yeah no need for sliders then.

CrazyKell 07-08-2009 04:00 PM

Track plastics will be a winter investment this year so this day will be done with street plastics (as much as that scares the ever loving CRAP out of me :panic:).

the chi 07-08-2009 04:07 PM

Congrats, thats exciting! If you dont want to run in your street plastics, go nekked, I highly recommend it! Saved me alot of $ when I went down by not having them on there. Even tho Ive got track plastics, I still prefer nekked.

I won't go into the frame slider issue...

It has nothing to do with how *fast* you are. It's the strangest thing - the first three sessions, most track noobies walk around with a look in their eye like they are going to throw up in their helmet at any given time without notice. It's OK - and it happens to everyone. For most, it is a totally different experience than any street ride EVER.

I don't think Calabogie is the place for me to learn track. :lmao:

Besides...all my buddies would be BEYOND jealous if I got to do my first day there. :rockout:

I did my first day there, and it was fine(confusing at times, but fine)

tached1000rr 07-08-2009 08:03 PM

So Kell have you discussed this with Boo?:D

CrazyKell 07-08-2009 08:28 PM

Boo's actually the one that asked me to do it. I guess he had spoken to my buddy and his bike and was telling him how sad he was that I took him TO the track but not ON the track.

He didn't want to sit on the sidelines anymore....so he finally convinced me. :lmao:

CrazyKell 08-31-2009 10:18 AM

Booked for September 5th. Absolutely shitting my pants at the moment but I'm sure I'll be fine once I'm out there.

Wish me luck!

tached1000rr 08-31-2009 10:28 AM

Goodluck!:rockwoot:

Don't. It's supposed to be a fun day. The looser and more comfortable you are, the faster you'll be and the more you'll learn. Don't totally over-obsess about being ready, someone will have whatever tool you've forgotten. Go out and have a drink or two the night before and have fun, that's the whole point.

And post some pics :) What track?

CrazyKell 08-31-2009 03:53 PM

I am hoping that all of my nervousness will just float away on the track and I will just hunker down and do what I need to do. I think I'm more nervous that all of my mates will be there to watch me.

Track is called TMP (Toronto Motorsports Track - Cayuga). Gearing up for the start of the addiction!

racedoll 08-31-2009 08:43 PM

Just try to relax. You have nothing to prove to anyone. Keep an open mind about learning and working on the techniques/drills. Everything else will come as the day progresses.

In case they don't teach you this - if you think you are tense, flap your elbows like a chicken... this will (should) help you relax.

marko138 09-03-2009 09:28 AM

Good luck, and most importantly, have fun!

Krypt Keeper 09-03-2009 10:33 AM

Don't be nervous.. Just think of it as a normal road minus the idiot cagers, no gravel, everyone going the same direction ect ect.

derf 09-08-2009 05:39 PM

So how did you enjoy it with the pain problems and all? I see you changed your picture.

CrazyKell 09-08-2009 05:49 PM

Amazing. Absolutely AMAZING!

So when are you coming to Calabogie?

CrazyKell 09-08-2009 06:53 PM

Okay it was absolutley incredible. I was so nervous when I got to the track that I actually puked. :td:

Once I got out on track and got calmed down though it was awesome. I took to it more than I thought I would. Unfortunately I was paired with a girl that was a lot more cautious. It was the 2 of us and an instructor (in my group). When she was the one directly behind the instructor the pace was quite a bit slower so I just focused on certain things. When I was behind him, he went quite a bit faster so it was good.

Almost got myself sucked in a couple of times with some faster guys but cooler heads prevailed. :lmao:

Thing is, I thought I'd suck but actually had a couple of instructors come up to me that night (camped over at the track) and talk to me about how I did, how impressed they were, etc. Huge ego boost for me.

This is the perfect sport for me....I can compete with myself and focus focus focus!

Pics to follow.

racedoll 09-09-2009 09:58 PM

Great pictures Kelly! Glad to hear you had a good time.

Trip 09-09-2009 10:09 PM

awesome, always good to hear about good days at the track. The bad ones suck.

CrazyKell 09-09-2009 11:19 PM

Thanks. Next dates are October 10th/11th after the hip has had some time to heal and physio is done. Can't wait to actually see some pics where the photographer was. These are just ones a friend took standing by the wall.
