We used up the other two threads so I started this one. A lasting tribute to a deserving new ride...Enjoy, I am. (cannot F'n wait for break in to be over!)

I'm sure it's a blast to ride and I'm sure you're very happy with it.

But you would agree that's one strange looking bike, right?

t-homo 07-17-2009 05:01 PM

congrats dude.

Thanks all! Yes it is different, bizarre, strange maybe but that is what makes it great! Really after 5 in line 4s, a parallel twin and a V twin it feels right. The engine speaks to me, it rides great, handles well, and fits me to a T.

At the end of the day isn't that what it is all about??

pauldun170 07-17-2009 05:27 PM

Is that a 4 banger Firebird in the background?

If so...all you phots are hjerby condemned to gayness

smileyman 07-17-2009 05:41 PM

WAS a 4 banger. Now sports a destroked, cammed, and blueprinted V8 chevy small block.

Rider 07-17-2009 07:00 PM

How are you liking those perimeter brakes.

Gas Man 07-17-2009 07:04 PM

That thing is SEX ON A STICK!!! WOW!!!

Fuck the other guys... I love the looks!

101lifts2 07-17-2009 07:27 PM

Ooooooh nice. I mean like Eslick nice.

smileyman 07-17-2009 07:41 PM

i raced with Eslick for a time. party animal! Fast as hell though.

The front brakes are strong, equal in bite to any sportbike I have owned, my ZX6R has braided lines, radial master cyl. And all, but it is hard to modulate, on or off. rear brake is non existent...

Sixxxxer 07-17-2009 07:47 PM

Whats a break in period??

Congrats

Congrats

That's the first 5 years of a marriage.

Sixxxxer 07-17-2009 07:50 PM

Eh,

Ride it hard from day one has always been my motto...

Even in my relationships ;)

G-Rex 07-17-2009 08:00 PM

Very nice!

I'd make a trip out to NW Arkansas for a spin around the block on that thing!

It's only 4 or 5 hours..really. :D I'll even bring my TLR!

tached1000rr 07-17-2009 08:25 PM

Smileyman, how are the ergonomics and comfort compared to the 636?

:idk: but as someone who has sat on a 636 it's got to be better!!!

Ducati Diva 07-17-2009 10:25 PM

I like the look but must admit the front view makes me think of a praying mantis

The seat wins hands down, bars are a lil higher but just as far a reach, and the pegs are a tad cramped for my 33 in inseam. BUT my Zxh has Arata rearsets so I am used to that. Overall it is very comfy and more upright, big plus is it is way narrow so your legs are under you. Tha plus a

smileyman 07-17-2009 10:35 PM

What I was trying to say before my phone took a dump was the suspension is way more compliant and plush meaning it is alot more pleasant to cruise on...

Congrats

Thanks. My break in is 5 or 6 heat cycles or a tank of fuel whichever comes first, varied rpm and throttle positions for a graduated rpm range. Then the first new oil and filter...

marko138 07-18-2009 09:49 AM

Looks awesome man.

Cutty72 07-21-2009 01:26 AM

I took it easy(ish) for the first 200 miles. Meaning mostly 6k or under, with an occasional run to redline in 1st while accelerating.

After the oil change, fair game to 8K anytime, still ran it to red occasionally... after 600 miles, on like donkey kong!

Oh, and did you order your Drummer yet?

Mr Lefty 07-21-2009 07:31 AM

NICE! congrats... did you move? don't remember the cul-de-sac. lol

so what are you gonna do with the 636? you think it'll still get ridden?

z06boy 07-21-2009 08:34 AM

Nice lookin' bike man.

Rider 07-21-2009 09:16 AM

Have you had any problems with your toe hitting the engine case when shifting gears?

smileyman 07-21-2009 10:47 AM

Yeah Ebbs I moved closer to work. And no I dont have any issues with the shift or brake lever clearance. My size tens have plenty room I suppose cause I ride on the ball of my foot and not my heel. The rear brake on this is useless anyways...I was never a big rear braker anyways.

Well you can't be on the ball of your foot and shift at the dame time. I ride on the balls of my feet as well but the first thing I noticed when I sat the the 1125R was that my toe was hitting the engine case. My feet aren't that big either.. 11 or so but it just felt weird.

I get a call every 2 weeks from the Buell H/D sales guy wanting me to come down for a demo. I might take him up on it soon.

smileyman 07-21-2009 11:00 AM

Yeah I guess i slide my foot onto the arch but I havent noticed any contact. The lever is right in the middle of its adj and I just toe it so? maybe your pigeon toed and dont know it?

You know what now that I think about it.. it was the bake lever side not the shift lever side. The engine case protrudes out in front of the brake lever right?

I had issues with the rear brake when I rode it, not the shifter.

smileyman 07-21-2009 11:15 AM

yeah its out there but the rear brake has to be stomped to get a response of any kind and that is with a braided line. I am going to look into fixing it but I feel like after test riding 3 that it is a el cheapo Hayes rear caliper. No worries thou the front brake is hella strong.

Back brake is just right on the XB. Not enough power to lock it unless you hammer it.

wildchild 07-21-2009 11:47 AM

very nice ride.

I like the different look.

smileyman 07-21-2009 12:22 PM

Thanks! I really enjoyed my reflection in the storefront windows on my Sunday ride! I have really fallen in love with torque as well. I am breaking it in so I havent gotten to taste anything but mid range but it sure is fun!

How many miles so far?

KSGregman 07-21-2009 01:33 PM

I have always been kind of intrigued by the Buells....just because they look so damned odd. Curious to ride one....rather than judge them by their looks.

I'll be down to the Fayetteville area in late August to ride the Pig Trail....we'll have to meet up....it would be nice to have a "local" show me the fun roads in the area. :dthumb:

tached1000rr 07-21-2009 02:46 PM

not apples to apples, but your review of the 1125 vs the 636 would be interesting.

smileyman 07-21-2009 03:17 PM

I gots around 325 mi so far. 225 saturday. Been heat cycling the motor and doing graduated roll ons in each gear. I am up to 7k or 8k in the higher gears.

Gregman, PM me to xchange contact numbers and I will show you the good stuff. 23 is a tourist rd, great unless traffic is there. You want to see 103, 215, 123 and a couple more...

smileyman 07-21-2009 03:21 PM

OK Tached, this is tough, 636 is like sitting on the nose of a rocket, afterburner on, pushing you thru the sky at a feverish pace every time you wind it on. The 1125r is like being sucked by a giant tractor beam thru time. Both accelerate at about the same power just in way different ways. The Zx is rheostat smooth, no character, just pulls to match your rpm and revs manic. The 1125 has a loppy feel that

smileyman 07-21-2009 03:25 PM

never seems rushed but speed builds anyway. twice the torque doesnt hurt and makes it easy to use.
Chassis wise they are close, the 636 having slightly better flickabilty and feel, but the Buell is rock steady at lean. Both are stiff but the feedback you get is different, the 636 tells you everything about what traction you have available where the Buell is a more muted feel, but so stable you dont even worry for what you dont know...
