Mladin: I Will Retire From AMA Racing At The End Of The 2009 Racing Season

Jul 31, 2009, ©Copyright 2009, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc.

From a press release issued by Mat Mladin:

After so many great years of racing in the USA, I will retire from AMA racing at the end of the 2009 racing season in New Jersey.

My career has been long and above and beyond my wildest expectations. I won my first national championship on dirt bikes back in 1981 (28 years ago) and have had an amazing career ever since.

If I had my time again, I would not change a single decision I have made, in life or in racing.

I would like to thank my team for their constant hard work. Without these guys, the 80+ race wins and multiple championships would not have been possible.

I wish to thank my fans. I want you to know that you all have helped me achieve so much. I will miss you.

I want to thank my mum and dad for getting me involved in such a fantastic sport that turned into my profession. I love you both.

My brother and sister for all the miles you done cramped into the back of a little pick up / ute in the early days. These were great times and the ones in racing I will cherish the most. You mean the world to me.

My daughters are growing fast and it is time I put my efforts into their future.

My wife, what can I say? You have unselfishly given your time and efforts to this lifestyle of ours. Racing had its down days, but with you by my side it was easy to get up and smell the fresh air, and realize how lucky I am. You have been a rock for so long, and if I could live another 100 years I still would not have the time to repay you for your commitment. I love you babe.

Mat Mladin

One of the most misunderstood guys in MC racing. Had to respect his skill by how many world champions got their chops racing against him.

I will be waiting by the phone for that call from Yosh!

Well, I'd like to be your crew chief or even the guy that sets your tire pressure...

I hear also that he's doing some "rabble rousing" by not racing the Kansas round because of safety concerns. Not to degrade his earnestness but I wonder if he would be making the same decision without his huge championship points lead?

Cool maybe I can start watching AMA again as long as they do something about the commentators.

Mladin, Hacking, and robertino Pietri all sat out for safety concerns. I dont think they see getting maimed over some rinky dink club series as a wise use of their time. Cant blame em, but if it was me I would suck it up, take my chances and go for the glory...

Me too... where I'm at in my life, if I were in a position like Mat's? No fucking way!

smileyman 08-01-2009 07:43 PM

It takes a special kinda crazy. A comittment most would not understand to lay down your cards against the odds, but I love that feeling. Macau, Isle of Mann, TWS at College Station, Hwy 123 in the Ozarks, take your shot.

Perhaps if I ever lose I will have my regrets, but the thrill and the glory makes me feel alive...

I like Mladin alot..he is a very very dedicated racer that has earned his achievements over the years. I've heard many stories of him being an ass to people for some reason, but I'm not sure why..oh well.

Papa_Complex 08-10-2009 12:44 PM

I just hope that he makes sur eto tell the organizers where they're screwing up, on his way out.

I think that I've got the perfect replacement for him on the team too.

Yea I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't chafe a few asses before he leaves... we'll see. I think it all depends on what he plans to do after he retires and how much his plans depend on/ involve the AMA. No use burning bridges. Personally, I'd like to see him manage a Suzuki WSBK team and help get them back on track... Heck maybe even a MotoGp team!

Rider 08-10-2009 12:51 PM

No surprise. That series isn't competitive for him anymore now that Ben is gone. When you can choose to not race a 2 race weekend and still not be worried about loosing the championship, it's time to move on.

Safety may have been his major concern but if the points were much tighter I doubt he would have chosen not to race. AMA road racing is dead and he knows it.

I don't care much for Mat BUT I know he's an awesome rider...no doubt.

I'd think more of him if he would tell a few of the AMA higher ups to :gofurslf:on his way out.

Yea I'd love a press conference where he says that the AMA sucks and that he'd rather race SS in Australia for $50,000 than race here for a million!

I agree! This is a super boring SBK series! I can't wait for VIR and for Mat to shut Pegram's pie hole though! What a cocksucker! "What little respect I had for Mat Mlladin is gone.." Fuck you Larry, you nobody, back marker piece of shit! Take that "million dollar" Ducati that you've been LUCKY to win a race or two on and shove it up your ass!!!:gofurslf: This is another situation where the I4 companies have to run stock components while the V2 guys get to use factory race bikes.:idk:

37 or something like that. Still young enough to run competitively.

he sees the writng on the wall with the ama so i am sure that helped push him to retire. He did run in toto gp and I think WBSK a long time ago and got his ass handed to him thats partly why he stayed in AMA.
