Dollars to donuts the shop manual is just going to say "Remove front driveshaft"

Sorry man... never had to do that on my K20. Actually I didn't even think it had a divorced transfer case... been a long time.

If you've got the clearance, you might have better luck if you re-attach the center support to the frame, maybe pull the front shaft with a slide hammer?
