I don't adjust my chain that often either... although it was kinda loose which may have contributed to this situation....
I don't think that it's scratched, it's just dirty, I got caught in the rain last night as well... Or it might have something to do with them being on two bikes for over 50,000 miles and 4 or 5 crashes...
