That's what I remember. But as a teacher told a girl in one of my classes who had a ring...
"That means you promise to NOT have sex. And you become a virgin again after 2 years not 2 weeks" (not sure of the religious re-virgin years thing, just making up a number). That teacher was my hero.
Promise rings mean that the chances of them putting out is very promising. Real virgins who will (or at least want to) wait till marriage don't need a ring.
