I use one of these. It's not as secured as a heavy cable, but it's easy to carry in the jacket pocket. And it's strong enough to resist people pulling it apart.

I just ordered the same thing made by Kryptonite. I'm going to give that a shot and see if it's easier to carry around then a cable lock.
