People plug tires here all the damn time, I have never seen a thread or talked to a person who had one fail. Tires very rarely fail catastrophically too. They slowly deflate and you can tell it's happening and have time to stop.
I know the stealerships and bike shops love when people bring brand new tires that can be plugged and want them tossed off the bike. The workers fight over the tires.
