The thing is Ed,there are very few people that understand how you feel better than I do. I have been where you are many times. To be honest,what you will determine in the next few weeks is how much you love riding. I remember that your wife was dead set against you buying this bike and I'm sure you're getting a full on assault of "I told you so"s. As for the bike... a new(ish) 750 for cheap, excelent track bike!
