While that is good for some people, I also at the same time believe that is one of the biggest things wrong with our country these days. I had a summer hire position in a govt engineering job and there are some people who are so worthless it's frightening, and they will never be fired.

Usually if you are good at what you do, don't cause problems and get your shit done then you dont have to worry about being fired.

no doubt... I don't agree with it... just saying it's a perk for being in that position. I've worked with 10-15 GS civilians... 3 or 4 were worthless... but they couldn't be fired unless they basically didn't show up for work or did something illegal. fucking sucked. but from the civilians standpoint... gotta be nice to know they can't just can you because they want their friend hired (something they try a lot especially with spouses on base)
