Go with leather and get the dog one of these:
http://www.cabelas.com/p-0019307617512a.shtml I got one for Lilly so she would stop falling into the gap between the bench and the front seats. She just refuses to sit down and be still when riding in my truck.  It does a good job of keeping fur & muddy paws off my seats too.
