288, because it's written like a 3rd grade order of operations problem. No one uses that division sign besides 3rd graders.

Not at this level. You follow left to right for (multiplication & division) and (addition & subtraction). If the equation was written properly in higher level math, the order would be more clear.

This is what is screwing me up. The last time I took a math class it was calculus...

(I hasten to add that I wasn't any good at it... which is why I am no longer a biology major, and rather a photography major.)

Yes it's 48 halves times the sum of 9 and 3...288. It was just written a tad confusing.
