I rode to the UP of Michigan in October, with two guys I work with at the TSA.. Very nice unpopulated area.... logged about 1900 miles in 5 days.. It was on that trip that I decided the GSXR must go.

Rent a Busa for a trip and see if that will fit the bill. More than enough raw power and still nimble enough to get through winding roads, but stable and comfortable enough for moderate touring.
